GobbleGums return once again in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, with Mr Peeks’ confectionery machines dotted throughout the Aether in the new Ashes of the Damned map, ready for you to roll the dice on in hopes of trivialising those earlier rounds.
If you’re wondering what exactly these little confectionery balls of magic are, where you can acquire them, and how often they drop, or how they differ from Black Ops 6, in this guide, we’ll be covering all of the basics so that you’re best prepared to dive in and get gobbling.
What Are GobbleGums?
First appearing in Black Ops 3 back in 2015 (yes, a decade ago), GobbleGums are one-time consumables that grant you powerful buffs when eaten. Gumball machines spread across the map will dispense them at random, pulling from your pre-set loadout, and you can choose to accept the GobbleGum offered or leave it; either way, there’s a five-second cooldown before you can pull the lever again.
Don’t worry if you do accept it, as taking a GobbleGum from the Mr Peeks machine won’t trigger it immediately. Instead, it will be added to your inventory, which can hold up to three at a time. These can then be activated whenever you need.
Rarities
GobbleGums come in five distinct rarities, each with more powerful effects than the last (bar Whimsical):
-
Rare: basic upgrades and power-ups.
-
Epic: uncommon power-ups and modified game mechanics.
-
Legendary: free perks and Pack-a-Punch weapons, stronger power-ups, and potential match-savers like reviving all teammates.
-
Ultra: invaluable boons that allow you to max your weapon’s rarity, acquire every single perk, and more.
-
Whimsical: silly visual modifiers.
You can also crush GobbleGums for points.
Acquiring New GobbleGums
You can earn GobbleGums simply by playing the game, i.e. levelling your career profile or completing rounds in Zombies (roughly every 20-30 minutes). You can also buy GobbleGum packs in the store, and they tend to be included on the battle pass.
While we don’t yet know the drop rates for Black Ops 7, much of the game builds on Black Ops 6, so we can look to old data for a rough idea.
Last year, u/cream-surprise crunched the numbers, tracking the drop rate of 104 GobbleGums, to find out roughly what the odds are of getting each rarity:
-
Rare: 54.81 percent.
-
Epic: 26.92 percent.
-
Legendary: 13.46 percent.
-
Ultra: 4.81 percent.
They also found that higher rounds did not alter the chance of acquiring a higher rarity GobbleGum, and that you can be awarded a maximum of three at a time.
You might’ve noticed that Whimsical rarity GobbleGums weren’t included in their findings, and that’s because they are not earned through playtime. Instead, you get them by exfiling: one for rounds 15 to 29, two for rounds 30 to 44, and three for rounds 45 onwards.
Do GobbleGums Carry Forward?
If you played Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, you’ll immediately have a head start, as GobbleGums carry over to Black Ops 7 – your entire stash will be waiting for you.
GobbleGum Loadouts
Before you start a Zombies match, you can create and customise GobbleGum loadouts, which will determine what the Mr Peeks confectionary machines dispense in-game. Each loadout can hold five unique GobbleGums, but each GobbleGum has a limited number of uses depending on how many you have acquired.
If you have none of that GobbleGum left, and it’s in your loadout, you risk getting flavourless gum from the dispenser.
A useful strategy is to create loadouts for each GobbleGum rarity, so that you can cycle through a variety of different options in-game.
Every GobbleGum In Black Ops 7
Black Ops 7 brings back the twin-stick shooter mode Dead Ops Arcade, but this time around, it’s compatible with GobbleGums. However, they have different effects from the typical round-based Zombies.
