ZA There is only one Pokemon in each mainline game

You can assume that, despite how many Pokemon games there have been, there's still quite a few that you can get in every single mainline game. Well, you'd be wrong. In fact, with the arrival of Pokemon Legends: ZA, there is technically only one Pokemon left that can be found without hacks or tricks in every game since Red & Blue, and that Pokemon is Magikarp.

Magikarp being the last Pokemon standing when it comes to series appearances was highlighted by JPRPT98 on Twitter, who also noted that Gyarados technically fits in as well, since that's the Pokemon Magikarp evolves into. Pokemon fans have thrown out scenarios trying to disprove Magikarp's supremacy ever since, but with each failed attempt, Magikarp's claim as sole survivor only grows stronger.

In an ever-changing Pokémon universe, Magikarp is the only constant

If you didn't know about Magikarp's inclusion in every single mainline Pokémon game, when you asked which Pokémon has appeared in each entry, you might have played the odds and gone for Pikachu. However, as was the case with many Kanto Pokémon that had appeared in every game up to that point, TPC's most famous creation was missing from Black & White.

If you've seen Pikachu in Black & White, it's because it was ported to.

Game Freak chose to fill Unova with new creations, and even Magikarp was almost left on the cutting room floor. If it wasn't for a vendor who gave you the Pokemon on Black & White's Marvelous Bridge, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

The next obstacle Pokémon that had appeared in every game had to overcome was Sword & Shield. The first game in the series where you couldn't catch all the Pokémon created so far. That's almost where Magnemite and Psyduck were forced to throw in the towel, but both Gen 1 stalwarts managed to keep their records intact after being added to the game via DLC.

Now here we are in Lumiose City, and once again, Magnemite and Psyduck are nowhere to be found. They were the only Pokemon left standing (or floating in Magnemite's case) besides Magikarp, and Magikarp is the only one of the three you can currently catch in Pokemon Legends: ZA.

However, that doesn't mean Magikarp will be alone at the top forever. As was the case in Galar, the Pokemon it previously shared the record with may appear when Legends: ZA receives DLC. For now, however, Magikarp rules. Just watch out for alpha one lurking in Wild Zone 2, it knows Hydropump and isn't afraid to use it.
