Ghost of Tsushima is now Steam Deck verified, as Patch 8 on Steam brought various optimizations and bug fixes to Sony's critically acclaimed game. Along with Steam Deck verification, Ghost of Tsushima splitting its single-player mode and online multiplayer Legends mode, with the latter becoming a free DLC pack for those who already own the game.
Originally launched in July 2020, Ghost of Tsushima is considered to be Sony's last PS4 exclusive, as it arrived just months before the PS5 hit store shelves. Set in 13th century Japan during the first Mongol invasion, Ghost of Tsushima tells the story of Jin Sakai, a samurai on a mission to defend Tsushima Island from the Mongols by any means necessary. In August 2021, Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut was released on both PS4 and PS5, with the latter console receiving features such as haptic feedback and faster loading times. The Director's Cut added the single player Iki Island expansion, which could be freely accessed after reaching the second act of the base game. Ghost of Tsushima celebrated its fifth anniversary earlier this summer by offering players some free memorable PlayStation Network avatars that can be claimed via region-specific codes.
Over a year after Ghost of Tsushima launched on Steam, the PC port received a surprise update headlined by some major quality of life changes. Ghost of Tsushima is now Steam Deck verified as of Patch 8, although the verification only applies to the single player mode. Patch 8 includes a Steam Deck graphics preset configuration and various UI optimizations. Patch 8 is also split Ghost of Tsushimas single player and multiplayer modes. Thus, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is now a separate DLC that players own Director's Cut can download for free. Even if Ghost of Tsushima: Legends requires a PSN account, the single player game does not.
Patch 8 has also been updated Ghost of Tsushimas implementation of AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling to version 3.1.4. The switch to FSR scaling should increase performance for Ghost of Tsushimas PC port, which should also benefit Steam Deck users. But PC gamers with an AMD Radeon RX 9000 series GPU, like the Radeon RX 9060 XT, can now force Ghost of Tsushima to use FSR 4 upscaling via AMD's driver software. When FSR 4 is enabled at driver level, Ghost of Tsushimas menu and launcher will reflect the change.
Despite being overshadowed by its successor, Ghost of Yotei, Ghost of Tsushima is still considered one of Sucker Punch's best titles to date. It remains to be seen how Ghost of Tsushimas performance on Steam Deck can be compared to other titles.
