The Witcher Chief reveals what made Liam Hemsworth the perfect choice for Geralt

Season four of Netflix's The Witcher is just days away, and fans are waiting to see not only how the show ends, but how Liam Hemsworth will portray Geralt after Henry Cavill's departure. The showrunners have taken a lot of heat for this, as fans loved Cavill's performance, and some of this has unfortunately and unfairly rubbed off on Hemsworth.

With all that done and dusted, the only thing left to see is how the final season turns out. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has said on numerous occasions that Hemsworth has done a fantastic job stepping into the role, and has now revealed why the actor was cast in the role.

Liam Hemsworth perfectly fits Geralt's character development in season four

“What I thought he brought to that character was this real kind of emotional depth and this vulnerability and the ability to kind of fall in love, but also be part of this really scopic world,” Hissrich said in an interview with GamesRadar+. Hemsworth's portrayal not only mimics what Cavill brought to the role, but builds on it according to the events of the upcoming season.

Everything goes wrong for Geralt at the end of season three. Hissrich explained that he is at his lowest ebb and has lost track of Ciri and Yennefer, the two people he cares about the most. He is not only emotionally scarred but also physically damaged, which makes things that much worse. Hemsworth manages to capture this perfectly.

“So we also knew that we wanted to find someone who could bring the gruffness and the kind of action star that we know from Geralt, but to be able to bring this undercurrent of a man who's lost a lot of things. Liam does such a beautiful job of walking that line of being able to be emotional without being weak; being vulnerable, without being completely exposed all the time.”

Hemsworth immediately captured this emotional depth, along with the physicality Geralt is known for, which made Hissrich and crew believe they made the right choice in recasting the role.
