Google Play Games makes an update that will change how profiles work by adding some features that Steam players have come to know and love. The changes to Google Play games may be significant enough to withdraw some players, or it can make them more involved in the process, as some Steam users are.
Steam is the most popular PC game platform around, although several other companies have either tried to compete or at least coexist on the market with the platform. While Google Play Games began exclusively on Android devices, it is then spread to other markets, with user profiles that are now synchronized when players use Google Play games on PC. Now the gaming service is adding some new features to profiles that fans may appreciate.
Google Play Games make profile changes similar to Steam's
Google has now announced that Google Play Games profiles will be updated to provide a more uniform picture of “your gaming Journey” over devices. The updated profile will reportedly still contain features such as performance, but will also add new features, such as letting players showcase their performance and statistics in games. It will also add “new ways to build your gaming community”, even if Google did not go into details about this. Players will also be given ways to tailor their gaming profile to see how they like.
These updates will be live on September 23, 2025 worldwide, except in the EU and the UK, where they will be launched on October 1st. Players can choose to make their profiles public, which will not only show things like statistics to other players, but allow players to follow others and see their game updates. Current profile settings will be transferred, so those who prefer not to have their mobile game awards will be displayed to others will need to change their profile inspection accordingly. Players should also be aware that Google is changing how it handles gaming data and explains that the service will collect information about things what games a user plays, what games they have installed and how much time they have put in the title.
At this point, it sounds as if Google can also add community functions similar to Steam's, but more will be clear when the update is launched. Profile statistics are not only a good way for players to showcase their hard -acquired gaming performance, but they are often used to make friends and find new games, based on what these friends play. Those who prefer not to participate in these new features should consider setting their profile inspection for private now, so they are ready when the update lands.
