Nintendo Switch 2 Could eventually have gaming cartridges that offer different storage sizes. At present, Switch 2 developers are limited to just one storage size option (64 GB) for their physical editions.
Although it is not obvious from the beginning, Switch 2's only storage options of 64 GB have affected the decisions from several developers in a seemingly large way. Since the storage size exceeds the requirements for many games built for the platform, studios have had to choose a game key card instead of saving costs. These game button cards contain no game data but just the license to download the game digitally, which is why a section of Nintendo fans has been up in weapons over it since before the console's launch.
Switch 2 cards can get more storage options, which reduces the need for game buttons
In what can be seen as a positive update, Macronix, a Taiwanese company that apparently handles Nintendo's cartridge needs, is pronounced that more storage options are on the way. Per Uanalyze (discovered by the Twitter user Supermetalave64) recently shared the storage solution company that its ROM products “are mainly used in Nintendo Switch game cartridges” and that in the future it will use internal ML Nand and outsourced 3D Nand components to provide “different capacity screpering requirements. Given that there are already various storage capacities for the original switch cards, it can be concluded that the above statement speaks of something similar to becoming available for Switch 2 cards that go on.
This development is important in connection with the Game-key card line. In recent months, even more gaming studios have chosen Nintendo's game button card due to the lack of smaller storage options for Switch 2 cartridges. The possibility of optimal storage options that arrive in the future has a promise and can mark a changed trend where more developers put gaming data on the cartridge, instead of just a key for the game. In addition, the unfavorable fans' feeling about gaming button cards further adds the chance that such a shift will take place.
While most of Switch 2's innovations may have been well received, the introduction of game buttons has really not had the same type of treatment. And fortunately for the fans, Nintendo does not let this thing be unnoticed. In fact, the console giant has conducted surveys in several markets, including Japan and West, to record and assess what Switch 2 players like about gaming key cards.
