“The work is mysterious and important.”

– Mark S. to Helly

One of the biggest questions that resigned is what exactly does Innies when you are on the cut floor? It is really abstract: a bunch of random numbers that the employees have to search through, group together and release in its corresponding box. While the disclosure of what exactly Innies has done has been revealed in season 2, at the beginning of season 1 we were as lost as Helly when she first started.

In an attempt to help Helly adapt to being interrupted, land repeats a phrase that is often repeated by Lumon: “The work is mysterious and important.” It is one of the first quotes in severance pay, which refers to something more that happens behind the scenes, which makes it the perfect quote to essentially summarize the show. The work is really mysterious, and we have to find out how important it really is.

“Estour Feculence.”

– Mr. Milchick to Mr. Drummond

Seth Milchick is one of the characters you love and hate. After Cobel's rapid exit from handling the cut floor during season 1, Milchick is responsible for managing the employees in season 2 – but things are not as smooth as he thought.

At the top of the ever -growing pressure from Lumon's higher UPS to have Mark Finish Cold Harbor, Milchick unfortunately had to hit Lumon's version of HR to deal with his continuous failures, including his use of “complicated” and “big” words in his sentences.

It is a massive easy for his character, which causes his loyalty to awaken. All continued microaggressions against Milchick continue to be stacked until he finally cannot take it anymore. This makes it all the more satisfying when he finally stands up against Mr. Drummond and mainly tell him and Lumon to “eat sh*t” – but on the classic Milchick way.

“If you want a hug, go to hell and find your mom.”

– Ms Cobel to Doug Graner

Harmony Cobel has plenty of memorable quotes, partly thanks to Patricia Arquettes fantastic cadence while she speaks, but this is one of the best. During Season 1, Cobel is informed by Doug Graner that one of the ex-versed employees, Petey, has really died of reintegration disease. Graner tries to offer her some comfort and says that none of them was the indication of Petey death and assured her that the board would understand.

But in a cold answer, Cobel simply answers: “If you want a hug, go to hell and find your mom.” This conversation occurs earlier in season 1 and quickly shows to the audience that Cobel is hard, independent and incredible. It is a great moment that shines more on her character and behavior and sets up the audience for what will come later.

“Let's burn this place to the ground.”

– Irving B. to MDR

Fans were immediately connected to the flowering love story between Irving B. and Burt G. in Season 1 of severance pay, with a sweet will-they-not-the-moment that happens when the two tried to push down their feelings for each other while maintaining a professional relationship. Unfortunately, the relationship is quickly interrupted in a power movement by Lumon, which forces Burt to “retire” from the O&D department, which Irving only finds out when he stumbles into the pension party and confronts Mr. Milchick in a heartbreaking monologue.

When Irving returns to the macro -task team, he officially joins the team's efforts to take down Lumon and insists on “burning this place to the ground.” It is an influencing moment in the show, which made even better when you know that one of the most important qualities that Irving had was that he was extremely loyal to Lumon. So having him officially break because he lost love in his life makes this line all the more powerful.

Another emotional moment during Burt's retirement party was the heartbreaking monologue that Christopher Walken gave. During retirement, Burt's Outie registers a video that explains why he “retires” and says this line. Unfortunately, Burt is just right. While he has built these relationships, he will not even be aware of who was down on the cut floor.

This is even more emotionally when you realize that this also refers to the relationship that Irving and Burt had. Burt does not remember Irving and the love he had for him and it causes this line to damage the fans in their feelings again.

“Try to enjoy each fact equally and not show preference to some in front of the others.”

Oh, Miss Casey. One of the more strange employees on the cut floor, Casey acts as a wellness adviser for the employees. In her wellness sessions (which the employees are sent to for a kind of morality), Casey speaks almost mechanically and standalone when listing Outie facts for Innie to enjoy.

But during the sessions, she makes it a point to tell every employee that they are not allowed to enjoy one fact over the other, and they should not show any preference to one in front of the other. It's really a stupid moment in an extremely serious show, but this line has quickly become a fan favorite on social media.

Ricken Hale is Mark's eccentric swogs, whose career is about writing self -help books. While Outie Mark sees Ricken as ridiculous and often makes fun of him, love Innie Mark (who does not know that Ricken is his swogs because he has been canceled) definitely him. After Rickens's latest novel finds his way to the cut floor, it acts as the catalyst for macrodate -feeding uprising.

Most of Hale's words are really stupid (“Bullies are nothing but bull and lies.”) But there is a certain wisdom behind it. In particular, this quote begins to force Innie's to realize that they have their own autonomy, even though they are told that they are not “real” compared to their excursions.

Probably the biggest revelation that the Season 1 final gave us was that Ms. Casey In fact, Marks is long lost dead wife, Gemma.
