3 fantasy shows with better battles than House of the Dragon, ranked

House of the Dragon has just kicked off its third season with the Battle of the Gullet, one of the most epic and large-scale conflicts in George RR Martin's history. The Game of Thrones the prequel series has spent two seasons leading up to Dance of the Dragons, and while it took some time, fans couldn't be happier to see the massive Targaryen civil war finally begin to play out on screen. A still from Into the Badlands

If House of the Dragon is the king of large-scale battles, that is Into the Badlands is the master of intimate hand-to-hand combat. Based on Riot Games' League Of Legends, Secret is an animated masterpiece that follows sisters Vi and Jinx as tension builds between the prosperous, utopian city of Piltover and its oppressed, neon-drenched undercity, Zaun. Driven by the invention of magic-infused technology and a volatile, strength-enhancing drug, a devastating ideological war breaks out. Arcane's visuals and writing all rightfully deserve praise, but its action sequences deserve just as much attention.

Whether it's Vi's violent gauntlet brawl, Ekko's unforgettable showdown with Jinx, or Ambessa Medarda's devastating displays of military prowess, Secret boasts meticulously choreographed and inventive large-scale action. Every punch, explosion and magical ability is as purposeful as it is spectacular.Secret ultimately surpasses House of the Dragon when it comes to fighting because the animated show puts its characters first and spectacle second, ensuring that even the biggest sequences have huge emotional consequences.

Rather than measuring battles purely scale that House of the Dragon does, the animated series purposefully ensures that its conflicts change the characters forever. With its intimate POV shots and impressive fight choreography, Secret produced some of the best matches in television history. In addition, the series managed to capture each character's distinct fighting style with its full intensity, whether it was Jinx's fast pace and agility or Vi's violent and head-first brawl. House of the Dragon may contain major battles, but Secret's fights are much more inventive, emotionally resonant and artistically daring.
