You may have already played Ghost of Yotei before 2025, and I don't mean Assassin's Creed Shadows

I know I am not alone when I say I have waited over 5 years for Ghost of TsushimaThe successor's successor to arrive, as that game put its mark on me and many others during one of the most tumultuous seasons in our lives, and I couldn't wait to see what Sucker Punch came on next time. Now, Ghost of Yotei Is finally here, and I have already spent somewhere about 15 hours in it and explored Ezo on the back of my horse, Homura, testify to one of the most beautiful open worlds I have ever seen. But while I would like to say that all I experience is healthy and new, I can't shake the feeling that I've been playing Ghost of Yotei before – and I don't mean Assassin's Creed Shadows.

When it was first announced and later when even more details were revealed, Ghost of Yotei met with comparisons with Assassin's Creed Shadows. Ghost of Tsushima had already been compared to Assassin's Creed generally for its stealth game, so these comparisons would understandably be transmitted to Ghost of Yotei also. It's not just the game that made Ghost of Yotei similar Assassin's Creed ShadowsAlthough the two shared a prerequisite for a young woman's parents being murdered and thus put her on a way to avenge. But during the time I have already spent Ghost of YoteiI have found that it has much more similarities to another of the top game of the year than even Assassin's Creed ShadowsKingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Ghost of Yotei is basically Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in Japan

Both games share a premise and some unique mechanics

The most obvious similarity shared between Ghost of Yotei and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is their condition. Both main characters – Ghost of YoteiS Atsu and Kingdom Come: DeliveranceS Henry – are set on the paths of revenge when their parents and hometown are killed and raged to the ground during a raid. While Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Not centers around the revenge story as much as the predecessor, it is still a continuation of the first game's story, and it finally sees Henry confronting the person responsible for burning his home and murdering his parents.

However, the similarities go much deeper than revenge, as both Henry's and ATSU's fathers happen to be sword smiths who taught the main characters trade. Here, Ghost of Yotei and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Share some unique blacksmith mechanics, so I, if I didn't know anything better, would make the claim Ghost of Yotei ripped off Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Instead, it is clearly a coincidence just how similar the two are in that area Ghost of YoteiBacksmeding Mini-Game is much more accessible and forgiving than Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2Even more realistic blacksmith system is.

Both games have similar methods for open world design and environmental stories

Anything else Ghost of Yotei and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Has in common is their open world design. First, both games are deeply rooted in history, which inadvertently affects how their open worlds are presented. Sure, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 may be even more historically correct than Ghost of YoteiBut the two games still rely on real past events to shape their worlds. Secondly, every title has an open world that does not hold the player's hand and instead reacts to their presence, with lots of random events and a non-linear structure to give players true freedom.

Ghost of Yotei and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Also use similar environmental storytelling methods. IN Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2Particularly open world, in particular, players can find lots of optional places that are not tied to the game at all and instead are simply there to tell a story – like two dead arches that ended an archery against each other with a draw. Ghost of YoteiOpen World is very similar and sees that players stumble in small places that, although they often have valuables for players to pick up, have no relationship with games, such as assignments or events with an open world. For example, I met a site in Ghost of YoteiS ezo where a person had been killed in front of a carriage filled with goods, and I assumed they were robbed.

So again there is a sense of deja vu i play Ghost of YoteiBecause it clearly echoes the forces in one of 2025's best games, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Of course I have spent about 250 hours in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2and it was after spending about 200 hours in the first game, so to see these similarities in Ghost of Yotei Is pretty easy for someone like me. But I know I'm not the only one who at least raised how almost identical Ghost of YoteiThe blame is that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2At the top of the revenge story, the two games share. In short, if you have already played Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 2025 you might as well play it again when you start up your PS5 for Ghost of Yotei.
