Xbox Game Pass silently cancels upcoming games

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 has been subtracted Xbox Game Pass lineup for July 2026. While Microsoft offered nothing in the way of an official explanation for this move, Xbox Game Pass could reportedly still get the remaster eventually, should enough things fall into place.

Developed by Vicarious Visions, now known as Blizzard Albany, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is a package that combines remastered versions of Activision's first two skateboard games from the turn of the century. The title has been part of Microsoft's portfolio since the Xbox maker completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard King in October 2023. Since then, Microsoft has gradually expanded the Activision Blizzard King catalog available through Xbox Game Pass, with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 recently announced that he was joining the subscription service on July 21, 2026.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2's Xbox Game Pass release is reportedly mired in licensing issues

On July 13, Microsoft quietly updated its Wave 1 Xbox Game Pass program for the month to state that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 had been removed from the schedule. The company offered no official explanation, and PlayDayOne later reported that licensing issues prompted the decision, citing an Activision representative. It remains unclear whether the disputed licenses involve music, image rights or other content. However, Activision is reportedly still seeking the necessary approvals Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 to Xbox Game Pass.

The follow-up to the first remaster duology, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4has been available on Xbox Game Pass from day one since July 2025. Activision Blizzard was already part of Microsoft back then, which may have simplified the licensing process for Xbox Game Pass relative to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2. Even without the skateboard two-pack, the subscription service still has another release slated for July 21, the open-ended sci-fi sandbox adventure The Planet Crafter.

While Activision is reportedly confident it will eventually resolve the licensing issues preventing its 2020 remasters from joining the Xbox Game Pass catalog, there's no indication when that might happen in mid-July 2026. Should all stakeholders fail to reach an agreement, it wouldn't be the first time Microsoft's subscription complications have affected licensing services. Forza Horizon 4for example, was delisted from all platforms in December 2024 due to expiring licenses. From another perspective, canceled Xbox Game Pass releases are rare but not entirely unheard of, although more often they stem from issues unrelated to licensing. The most recent example was the cancellation of Football Manager 2025which resulted in FM24 is extending its stay on Xbox Game Pass.

Waiting for news Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2Xbox Game Pass users can jump into Quarantine Zone: The Last Checkwhich was added to the Premium tier library earlier today, July 15th. The Zombie Apocalypse Quarantine Checkpoint Simulator has been available to XGP Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers since January 2026. Based on the timing of its extended release, Quarantine zone may remain in the post for another six months, leaving in early 2027.
