Where To Find The Human Seed In The Last Caretaker

In The Last Caretaker, you have to restart humanity and part of this is finding human seeds which you can grow in order to send to the colony. Unsurprisingly, this is done in the Lazarus Complex.

The Last Caretaker: Lazarus Come Forth Quest Walkthrough

We show you how to get into the Lazarus complex, restore power, and enter the Hall of Humanity in The Last Caretaker.

After you’ve got the power set back up, you’ll be given the Seeds of the Future quest, which asks you to find and bring back a human seed. There are a couple of parts to this which we’ll walk you through.

How To Unlock Seeds Of The Future

The Lazarus rack powering up as the quests change in The Last Caretaker.

Once the Lazarus Complex is powered up, and Lazarus Come Forth is complete, you’ll need to complete another short quest to unlock Seeds Of The Future.

This is called From Ashes We Rise and is easy to do. You’ll also want to do some prep before you leave the Hall in order to complete Seeds of The Future.

This part drains a lot of power, so we recommend adding more turbines and/or solar panels onto the roof. We added six extra turbines and this gave us enough electricity to power the fabricator, recycler, a food processor, a water supply system and one lazarus chamber. It also kept the lights on and three batteries mostly powered.

Make sure to take regular trips up to the roof since your turbines and solar panels will become damaged by the frequent storms. You’ll want to keep them repaired in order to keep the power flowing.

How To Repair The Lazarus Pod

Dismantling barrels in The Last Caretaker.

This is a short quest which simply requires you to gather the materials to repair one of the Lazarus pods, and then power it up. To repair the pod you’ll need:

  • Aluminum x 5
  • Carbon Fiber x 5
  • Glass x 10
  • Gold x 10
  • Iron x 15
  • Plastic x 20
  • Rubber x 10
  • Titanium x 5

You can find all of these by dismantling items in the nearby rooms, then making them into materials using the recycler in the Hall of Humanities. Once you have them, approach the pod and repair it. You’ll also need to provide power for it.

While in the Hall of Humanity, make sure to access the PC in front of the Lazarus pods. You’ll need to select ‘Acquire Hall of Humanity Authorization’ in order to complete the other required quest, Guiding Light.

We recommend adding a medium battery between your main power supply from the roof and the power supply to the Lazarus chamber. This is because the seed growing process can fail if the power supply is not continuous. Having the battery gives it a decent buffer if the power supply is interrupted.

Medium Batteries not only help keep power stable, but they are also one of the fastest ways to charge your internal battery and refill your electric weapons and backpack.

Once the Lazarus rack is powered, the Seeds Of The Future quest will unlock. However, you’ll also need to make sure you’ve repaired the navigational relay on the roof.

How To Repair The Communications Array

The navigational relay tower on the top of the Lazarus complex in The Last Caretaker.

The guiding light quest unlocks when you arrive at the complex, but we’ll quickly run through it since you’ll also need to complete this before you can go and find the human seed.

On the roof is a large tower. Wait for daytime and then grab four iron, two copper, and two plastic, as you’ll need these to repair the communications array at the top.

As you walk up, most of the jumps are obvious, and you just keep moving forward. The only tricky part is the switchback about halfway up. You’ll see a jump in front of you which is noticeably higher than the previous ones. At this point, turn around, and you’ll see a smaller jump behind you.

Once at the top, you’ll need to repair the communications array with the materials we listed. Make sure to also check the floor as there’s a ladder you can let down to make getting down much easier than getting up was.

As well as repairing the array, you’ll also need to charge it. This is essentially the same task you did at the beacon earlier. The room which requires power is the third building on the roof.

Dispatch the enemies in front of the building and then open the door to access the array. Be prepared as there are some sweethearts inside the room.

If you can’t get inside, this is because you missed acquiring authorization. Go back into the Hall of Humanity and use the PICO in front of the Lazarus Pods to do this.

It’s simple enough to connect a line from the wind turbines to the left of the building in order to power up the array. Once the power reaches the level on the quest, then flip the switch.

Once the repaired array is powered up, you’ll get a location to visit for the Seeds of the Future quest.

The Last Caretaker: Complete Guide To Power

Power is vital in The Last Caretaker, including in order to stay alive. Here’s how to maintain a steady power supply.

How To Set Up A Fresh Water Supply

Water supply in The Last Caretaker.

Technically, you can now just set sail for Norfolk Grave. However, when you bring the seed back it will require a supply of fresh water as well as power.

There are a couple of small canisters which will tide you over, but it’s less stressful to set this up first, rather than once the seed is in the chamber and your limited supply is running out.

Looking at the Lazarus pods from the section where the fabricator is, the water supply can be found through the door on your left.

You’ll need to run two lots of cables, one to send electricity down to power the pump and distiller, and another to bring fresh water back up. You’ll need around 60 cables and a handful of connectors.

Connect from the battery by your Lazarus pod and run the cables into the ports on the door.

Use the corresponding port on the other side to run the two cables over to the ladder on the left of the elevator. Using a couple of connectors here will make the path neater across the bridge.

You can make the length of the ladder in one cable, so go down here then along to the doors on the lower level.

On the other side, you’ll need to repair the salt water pumps and water purifier. To do this you’ll need:

Salt Water Pump

Water Purifier

Plastic x 5

Plastic x 7

Rubber x 5

Copper x 6

Aluminum x 4

Aluminum x 2

Silicon x 2

Silicon x 2

Iron x 10

Polyurethane x 4

Fabric x 5

Iron x 6

You can just repair one pump for now. Once both are fixed, you’ll need to power the purifier and the pump then run salt water into the purifier and fresh water out and up to your main base.

Close up of water purifier in The Last Caretaker.

The salt water goes into the top of the purifier and fresh water comes out underneath. The salt water port is a darker color than the fresh water one, but don’t worry, since it won’t let you output from the saltwater port or input from the freshwater one.

If the system doesn’t work, make sure to check all your ports and cables make a straight connection and are all set to output the correct way. Electricity should be flowing down to the ground floor, then water back up to the middle.

You’ll need this to supply the human seed so setting it up now allows you time to do it carefully rather than trying to do it before your small cannister of water runs out.

Echoes In The Grave

The ship setting sale for Norfolk Grave in The Last Caretaker.

The first place you need to go is Norfolk Grave. It should be added as an in-world waypoint, after the relay is turned on. If you can’t see it, you can add it by opening the map and clicking on it.

Once you have the waypoint open, head towards it. You should be fine sailing at this point, but we have a complete ship guide, if you have forgotten anything.

We recommend slowing the ship when you get a few hundred meters out as you can easily overshoot here.

The most important thing to note is that the entire location is submerged. You’ll need to wait until the screen displays a message to say you’ve arrived and then simply stop and drop the anchor.

Before you dive, make sure you have a weapon, an electricity cable, and a torch.

When you enter the ocean you should see a large square edged building down below you.

The top of the building has two different heights. You’ll want to look at the lower height, and should see a circular grid and just along from it an uncovered hole.

Dive down and swim into the uncovered hole.

You’ll need to be able to dive around 40-50 M so make sure you have at least +20 M in the pressure enhancement. If you want to be more comfortable, aim for 25-30 M.

Once in the submerged room, you should see a blue glow in the corner ahead of you. Swim over to this, and you’ll find the glow is coming from a room above the water.

There may be cocoons here. You can try and swim past, or you can attack them.

Swim up to get out of the water and land in a room with a vitality point on the right and a lot of broken beams. There are also some random cocoons in here which you will want to get rid of.

In front of you is a beam arching down towards the floor about halfway across the room. Jump up onto this.

Walk to the top, and you’ll see a pillar in front of you. You need to get to the other side of this. In order to do that, you need to jump onto the beam on your left. You should see the water below the beam against the back wall.

After you jumped over, then jump from that beam back onto the one you were just on, but at the other side of the central pillar.

The beam extends across the wall. You want to head left and jump up the gap to follow it towards the wall where the water is.

Once you get to the top of the beam, and it levels out, turn to face your left. You should see a platform in the middle of the room with a beam coming out towards the wall.

You need to make sure to jump to the platform, as you likely won’t make the jump to the beam. Once on the platform walk around the beam and turn back to face the wall opposite where the water is.

You’ll see a ramp which has a traffic pole on it and is going upwards. Jump across to this.

Watch your step as you walk up the ramp. It takes you to a very broken floor which you can carefully traverse to reach the door on the other side.

Use these before getting the co-ordinates from the Pico.

How To Get The Seed Vault Coordinates

In the room you’ll also see a battery, a power port and a PICO, as well as the vitality and save stations. Connect the battery to the electric port and flip the switch on.

This should light the room and turn on the PICO. Go over to the computer and press e to interact with it. When the screen comes up move the select bar down to choose Acquire Seed Vault Authorization.

It’s worth breaking down the tech in this room. The aged Lazarus pod in the corner contains some rare materials. You can also turn off the power and use the remaining electricity to top up your internal battery if required.

The map by the PICO will show a new location, and you’ll get a confirmation message as well as a new quest, Voyage to the Cradle. You are now done here and need to retrace your steps back to the ship.

How To Complete Voyage To The Cradle

Once you get back to the ship you’ll see the marker for the seed vault. Make sure to heal yourself up and save before raising the anchor and setting sail. It’s 3.3 km away, so it will take a few minutes, depending on your engine.

You will get an optional quest, Relight The Way. This involves repairing another communications array. You can choose to ignore this for now.

All you need to do now is keep going until you get to the Seed Vault.

Make sure to keep an eye on the ocean around the vault as there are several mines in the water. The weather is also often choppy here, so you’ll want to make sure the ship is moored and the anchor dropped.

As you jump out and approach the vault, the quest will be completed.

How To Restore Power To The Seed Vault

Exterior shot of the powered up seed vault in The Last Caretaker.

As you likely predicted, you’ll need to restore power to the vault to gain access. We suggest waiting for daytime to do this as the area houses a lot of the swarming mobs.

The power is connected from a shack at the back of the building, just down a ramp. You can use the battery you’ll find, but it won’t do much. Inside the building is a long elevator down and several rooms you’ll want to power.

Since you should be swimming in resources, we recommend taking across the parts for a small power farm. There are plenty of things to dismantle inside as well, so you’ll easily get the resources for three or four turbines and solar panels back. You’ll want an uninterupted power supply for this main room.

You can carry items in a mid-sized container and stock up your inventory to get everything across more easily. A battery can also help prevent power interruptions, which stop the very long elevator journey.

You only need to power this one port in the shed, which makes things easier. Once you have a steady power supply up and running, go back to the entrance and go inside.

You’ll want as many bullets and weapons as you can carry for this one.

Where To Find The Human Seeds

The seed vault in The Last Caretaker.

When you get inside, the first thing you’ll see is a large elevator and a set of ladders. Choose either option.

Either way, it will get you to the bottom floor where you’ll find a number of cocoons. Clear the room out, then you’ll need to go and restore the power to the doors.

To do this, go down the ladder in front of you and just to the left. The bottom floor also contains a large number of cocoons, so you may want to shoot what you can from the top of the ladder before descending.

Once the room is clear, headinto the pipe along the back wall.

Once inside, turn left, and then climb the ladder at the end. You can’t go wrong here as there is only one way.

At the top you’ll see a small room containing some stairs. Go up these. They go back down the other side, then you’ll find a ladder. Go up here and it appears to be a dead end.

Once you’ve cleared the slimes, you’ll notice a vent on the right side of the back wall. Jump up here and crawl along until you end up in the room with power, vitality and save points.

Room with power, vitality and save points in The Last Caretaker.

You’ll be able to open the door from this side now, but will need to supply power to this port to open the other one.

The easiest way to do this is just to take a couple of small batteries down and power it that way. You just need to get the doors open.

Head across to the other side of the room you started in, and open that door.

Be careful in here, as you can easily get swarmed. If your vitality starts running low, run back across to the vitality point. It may take a couple of trips over but the room is clearable. Once you get to the other end open the door.

You may need to replace the battery during this process, depending how long it takes to clear the mobs. The flamethrower is fastest if you have it unlocked.

The next room is the seed vault itself. Here you’ll want to go over to the left of the seed vault and grab the seed inside the cube from the vault.

You’ll be asked to keep it in a pod so it stays safe. To do this, take it over to the pod on the floor to your left, then drop it on top and it should go inside.

You’ll then need to grab the entire pod and carry it back to your ship.

How To Get The Human Seed Back To The Lazarus Complex

Human seed in a Lazarus pod on the ship in The Last Caretaker.

You’ll need to carry the pod back up the long elevator, hence needing uninterrupted power, and to your ship. Once here, put it safely on the ship, then head back to the Lazarus complex.

The seed can only be in this pod for one hourbefore it disappears.

Assuming you just head straight back, this is plenty of time, even if you are just on electric engines. However, don’t be tempted to make the stop which flashes up. You can come back and explore all the mysterious places on your map when you aren’t on the clock!

At the other end, bring the pod to the elevator, head straight up, and you then just need to take it over to the Lazarus machine and place it in the pod you repaired.

Assuming your water and power are properly connected, the pod should now be sustained at a basic level and the quest will be complete.
