Many of the upcoming games are not connected to any existing franchise, and bring with them plenty of other reasons to be excited. The rumors have continued to circulate Lies by P 2although the game rearing its head this year remains little more than an optimistic possibility. Everything Soulslike fans should look out for in 2025
Elden Ring: Nightreign Could Dominate the Soulslike Genre in 2025
Fire Ring Nightreign was fully revealed over the air during The Game Awards 2024, and is currently slated for release in 2025. An official release date is the first thing to expect, with other updates sure to follow. The game is new for a number of reasons, chief among them being that FromSoftware very rarely chooses to tread the same ground twice. While Shadow of the Erdtree was impressively large for a DLC version, Night rule brings with it the promise of a full-scale sequel to Fire Ring.
Developers have insisted on it Fire Ring Nightreign will be a standalone game, which in itself is a very interesting approach to bring a “sequel”. Likewise, the game seems very experimental in general. It's impossible to say whether any of these creative risks will be well received or not, but it's sure to draw a lot of attention either way.
Except for any kind of delay, Fire Ring Nightreign will likely be the biggest Soulslike release of the year. Before this titanic release, fans will have the opportunity to play a beta version of the game. This will be a major event in itself and can go a long way in shaping public opinion about the final product.
Lies of P 2 is Still Up in the Air
There's still not much more than scarce rumors to deal with, though Lies by P 2s development is worth discussing just for the game's name recognition. The first game was a smash hit when it released back in 2023, and has been approaching household name status in the Soulslike genre ever since. This year is already very saturated, which leaves Lies by P 2 with two possibilities.
On the one hand, developers can remain dormant and let the storm blow over. On the other hand, they could jump into the fray and reveal whatever it might be that would set it off Lies by P 2 apart from other Soulslike games. Regardless, it would be a safe bet not to expect the game to be released in 2025, as development on the first game took three years. However, that doesn't mean fans won't get some additional news, such as an official release date or story details and the like.
2025 is full of competition for new soul-like games
While not all of them come from such an established background, there are plenty of Soulslike games ready to compete this year. From The Relic: First Guardian to The First Berserker: Khazanthere are about half a dozen titles, all of which have caught the eye of fans. However, two in particular seem to rise above the pack.
Soulframe currently has the best chance of getting the most attention. Soulframe is developed by Digital Extremes, the same studio behind Warframeand this fact has already given the game tons of positive press. On the contrary Wuchang: Fallen feathers was the subject of a bit of controversy when it was revealed. But recent trailers have done a lot to spin public opinion, making it a formidable contender after all.
Thanks to developers both big and small, 2025 is poised to be a big year for Soulslike games. Ring of Fire: Nightreign has the greatest legacy behind it, while Lies by P 2 has a great expectation hanging over his head. Best of all, there are plenty of other titles for any fan looking to delve deeper into the genre.
