Dragon Ball may be the definitive martial arts anime and manga, but that didn't stop Akira Toriyama from playing with weapons throughout the series' run. Early on, Goku even used his trusty Power Pole as much as he used his fists. Swords are not very common in Dragon Ballbut when they appear, they always leave a memorable impression.
Dragon Ball Super: 6 God-Tier Forms With the Potential to Beat Black Frieza
The Z-Fighters now have incredible transformations that have the potential to grow even stronger by the Black Frieza Saga, killing Frieza for good.
Between Future Trunks, Vegito and even Gohan, Dragon Ball has shown some great swordsmen over the course of the series. Swords will never be able to cut the difference against Ki, transformations, and good old hand-to-hand combat, thought Dragon Balls best sword users prove they have their place in the series.

Tapio
Brave sword
It's hard to judge how strong Tapion is because he never actually gets to participate in a real fight in Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragonbut all indications are that he is a great warrior and swordsman. He must to keep Hirudegar away. Tapion's Brave Sword is said to be a gift from the gods themselves, which he then gives to Trunks at the end of the movie.
Interesting enough Dragon Ball GT The anime opening shows Trunks wielding the brave sword, suggesting that Wrath of the Dragon is canon for the anime's continuity. Tapion's sword is primarily for seeing when pressed, and combined with his Ocarina, a way to Dragon Ball to have their own version of Link from The Legend of Zelda. That alone suggests that Tapion is a talented swordsman.
9
Dabura
Dark Sword
The Darkness Sword is Dabura's signature weapon and a staple of his fighting style. As seen when fighting Gohan in Babidi's ship, Dabura usually saves with his sword as a last resort. Gohan can catch and smash the Darkness Sword, but it clearly takes a lot of effort for him to do so.
In Trunks Future Timeline, he has a straight sword fight with Dabura. Despite using the much stronger Z-Sword, Dabura is able to keep up with the duel with his Darkness Sword. As the former King of the Demon Realm, Dabura is clearly a talented swordsman, but he simply cannot compete with the Saiyans when push comes to shove.

Tamagami One
Tamagami sword
Tamagami One is the strongest of the three Tamagami i Dragon Ball DAIMA. The anime directly states that Dabura was never strong enough to beat the Tamagami One, making him much stronger than Super Perfect Cell and scaling him to around Fat Buu (if not slightly stronger). Tamagami One is finally defeated by Majin Duu i Dragon Ball DAIMAthough not without putting up a big fight.
Even then, Tamagami One is strong enough to participate in the final battle with Gomah alongside Super Saiyan 4 Goku. Tamagami One's signature weapon is his Tamagami Sword, which he wields almost effortlessly. The fact that Tamagami One was stronger than Dabura also means that he was the strongest swordsman in the Demon Realm – at least in terms of canon characters.
10 Best Gohan Fights in DBZ & Dragon Ball Super, Ranked
Between DBZ and Dragon Ball Super, Gohan stars in some of the series' best fights, proving why the next generation is always better than the last.
7
Janemba
Dimension Sword
Janemba is the strongest non-canon villain Dragon Ball Z movies, and slightly stronger than Super Buu. During his final battle with Super Saiyan 3 Goku, Super Janemba uses his Dimension Sword to heavily injure Goku. Janemba would have even been able to kill SSJ3 Goku had Vegeta not jumped in just in time to save his former rival.
Although the Dimension Sword is destroyed during Super Janemba's fight with Super Saiyan 3 Goku and Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta, it is an incredibly powerful weapon. The Dimension Sword can literally cut through dimensions, making it one of the most dangerous weapons in the series. The fact that Janemba came close to defeating Super Saiyan 3 Goku with it also speaks to his danger as a swordsman.

Goku black
Violent Fierce God Slicer
Goku Black's Violent Fierce God Slicer is a Ki-based blade that he creates with his own energy. In it Dragon Ball Super anime, Goku Black uses his Violent Fierce God Slicer during his fight with Vegeta. He even manages to get the upper hand and impale Vegeta with the Ki Sword during the battle.
Unlike other martial artists, Goku Black has a habit of using his Ki to create weapons. On top of the Violent Fierce God Slicer, Goku Black can also create a scythe called the Sickle of Sorrow and upgrade his Ki sword to the Azure Dragon Sword Model Energy Blade. Base Zamasu uses Spirit Swords as a signature weapon, but with Goku's body under his control, he can use Saiyan Ki to transform himself into an even deadlier swordsman.
5
Gohan
Training Sword & Z-Sword
Although he doesn't use weapons often, Gohan has been a swordsman all his life. While training for the fight against Nappa and Vegeta, Gohan uses the training sword Piccolo gives him to survive in the wilderness. Gohan eventually drops the sword when Piccolo begins to train him in real martial arts, but he was strong enough to cut off a T-Rex's tail several times for meat.
Later in the Majin Buu Saga, Gohan pulls the Z-Sword out of its pedestal at the Sacred World of the Kai and grows incredibly stronger just by training with it for a few hours. By the time Goku arrives, Gohan has more or less mastered the art of the blade. He eventually breaks the Z-Sword on a block by Katchin, but Gohan could have done serious damage with the Z-Sword just based on how skilled he became.
4
Vegito
Spirit sword
Vegito has never actually been able to win a fight, but he has completely humiliated both enemies he has fought Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. IN DBZVegito uses the Spirit Sword – a Ki blade – to great effect against Buuhan. Vegito cuts off Buuhan's antenna expecting Buu to use it to try and absorb him.
That doesn't stop Vegito from toying with Buu a bit and cutting him to shreds. Later in Dragon Ball SuperVegito uses the Spirit Sword to literally cut off Fused Zamasu's hands and give him immense grief as he hits him with slash after slash. Vegito's big problem is that he's too strong a fusion for Potara to keep, but if he really had no timeline, his Spirit Sword could make short work of any enemy.
Dragon Ball Super: The 10 Most Powerful Characters Who Don't Need God Ki
God Ki in Dragon Ball Super is basically a cheat code to get stronger, but it's hardly necessary for the series' most powerful mortals.
3
Phew
Time Cutter
One of the main villains in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2Fu is one of the strongest demons in the entire franchise, and a genuine threat to the entire multiverse. Fu's signature weapon is the Time Cutter, a sword that he can use to literally absorb energy from his enemies. Fu's Time Cutter is powerful enough to conjure black holes by simply cutting it in front of him.
Fu can also use his Ki to manifest an energy blade, which he uses in conjunction with the Time Cutter. Some of Fu's greatest feats include fighting Ultra Instinct Goku to a stalemate and fending off multiple versions of Vegito and Gogeta at the same time. Even without his sword, Fu is a force to be reckoned with.
2
Yajirobe
Yajirobe's Katana
Yajirobe may be too weak to keep up with the Z-Fighters i Dragon Ball Superbut he deserves huge respect for everything he did with his katana in the original Dragon Ball and especially Dragon Ball Z. In his first appearance, Yajirobe kills one of Demon King Piccolo's children with a single slice of his katana (before eating him).
In Saiyan Saga, Yajirobe basically becomes the arc's MVP when he cuts off Great Ape Vegeta's tail. Yajirobe doesn't stop there either, he uses his katana to later slice Vegeta's back while fighting Gohan and Krillin. Yajirobe hasn't done much since then, but he doesn't need to to prove that he is one of the greatest swordsmen in all of Dragon Ball franchise.
1
Future Trunks
Trunks' Sword, Z-Sword, & Sword of Hope
Yajirobe may be the OG, but Future Trunks is arguably the greatest swordsman in the Dragon Ball history. Trunks simply knows how to get the most out of his weapons. In his debut appearance, Future Trunks uses his sword to cut Mecha Frieza to pieces in seconds, killing an enemy Goku was fighting in no time. Future Trunks finally breaks his sword fighting Androids 17 and 18, but he gets another one at the time Dragon Ball Super hits.
He is also the wielder of the Z-Sword in his timeline and uses it to fight and defeat Dabura in a sword fight. Future Trunks also uses Super Saiyan Rage and the energy of his timeline's survivors to transform his new sword into the Sword of Hope, an attack powerful enough to split Fused Zamasu in two. If Zamasu wasn't immortal, Trunks would actually have been able to kill him even though he was objectively weaker – that's just how great of a swordsman he is.
