Disney seemed to have given the toy story series the perfect end with Toy Story 3. It led the role in a meaningful way, offered them a suitable broadcast, reminded us all why we cared so much about the films in the first place and understructure the importance of releasing the past so that the new generation can thrive.

It feels unnecessary, but hey, it's Toy Story. We will probably all see it anyway. And we all took just a big step towards it when star Tom Hanks revealed that he is back in the studio to bring the iconic cowboy woody to life.

Earlier today, Hanks published a not-so-crryptic post on Instagram of itself in front of a microphone as captions “First working day on a certain story number 5! Need a clue? Disney. Studio B.” It is unlikely that anyone needed a clue, because we already knew that Toy Story 5 would be at 2026, but the fact that the voice work has started on the project is still exciting.
If Toy Story 5 stays at its date, it will come seven years from Toy Story 4, which is one of the shortest gaps for the Pixar series has gone back to more than anyone else. As of 1995, there was four years between Toy Story and Toy Story 2, but there was nine years between Toy Story 3's perfect ending and resuscitation of the Toy Story series 4 2010 and 2019, respectively. Those of you skilled at mathematics will have worked that this means that there was 11 years between Toy Story 2 and would be the final in Toy Big 3.

It is also by far the most productive series in Pixar's stable, with the fifth post that makes it ahead – and that is before you factor in some shorts. In fact, it is the only Disney -animated series that has five film release, although those like Marvel and Star Wars, both acquired by Disney who Pixar was, have had much more. Cars is the only other Pixar series that gets a trilogy, although Incredibles 3 has been green -lit.
Apart from that, Monsters got Inc. and to find nemo both sequels as well. It can even be argued that Toy Story 5 is the sixth toy story movie when you add Lightyear to the mix, but then maybe we are better at simply forgetting it. Either way, with Hanks in the booth, it seems that Toy Story 5 is in schedule, and maybe this will be a goodbye for rival Toy Story 3.
