In 2024, several well-received releases were released Magic: The Gathering sets, with some of the most recent being Bloomburrow and Duskmourn. Very different in terms of themes and setting, Bloomburrow is a very successful one Magic: The Gathering set that sold so much that its cards began to lose value due to too much supply and too little demand, and it takes place on a plane where only animals live in the Valley. At the other end of the spectrum is Duskmourn, a set that takes classic horror concepts and imagery, including several cards based on real-life fears. One of them saw a sudden increase in price due to its popularity in Modern, and it's ironically living up to its name now.
Magic: The GatheringDecember 2024 bans and unbans hit Modern the most out of any other format, finally taking action against the almighty The One Ring that had dominated the format for a long time. Thanks to the various banned and unbanned cards, Modern is rapidly changing in terms of meta, and one of the biggest changes comes thanks to a brand new deck emerging – Rakdos Delirium. As the name suggests, this is a black and red deck that revolves around the Delirium mechanic, which is why Duskmourn's fear of missing out jumps from $3 to around $10.
Since Fear of Missing Out is named after the anxiety that one might not be able to experience something that is out of reach for some reason, and it now sells for three times what it cost until recently, those who don't have the card can conveniently miss out on this deck archetype .

One Magic: The Gathering Format is caught between a rock and a hard place in 2025
Magic: The Gathering is launching a lot of new products in 2025, and its new release schedule could spell trouble for a format.
After Modern's big bans and unbans, the so-called Rakdos Delirium deck immediately started popping up, often with the newly unbanned Faithless Looting or even another Duskmourn card, MTG's Overlord of the Balemurk. The purpose of the deck is to quickly add at least four card types to the player's graveyard to have Delirium active on cards like Fear of Missing Out and Dragon's Rage Channeler to go for big battle phases every turn and then repeat them for more damage.
Cards like Nethergoyf also help with this strategy, as this creature has power equal to the number of card types in the player's graveyard and toughness equal to that number plus one. Playing four copies of Fear of Missing Out therefore helps to have multiple combat phases and to remove big hitters so they can attack again. Straight dose covers Magic: The Gathering often have combos like this, and there are even new “one-turn-kill” strategies in Standard. However, this particular deck doesn't require a lot of setup, and it's good for some of the biggest threats in Modern.
How MTG's Rakdos Delirium Deck works
Since Fear of Missing Out's text reads “When Fear of Missing Out attacks for the first time each turn, if there are four or more card types among the cards in your graveyard, remove the target creature. After this phase, there is another battle phase.”, players can use its ability multiple times in a turn, provided it is bound to different copies of the creature each time. Fear of Missing Out is also a good card to activate Delirium faster, since it counts as two Magic: The Gathering card types – Enchantment and Creature. Milling it with Overlord of the Balemurk or casting it via Faithless Looting thus already gives two card types in the graveyard.
Another big Rakdo staple that fits well into this deck is Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger, who doesn't stay on the battlefield unless played for his escape from the graveyard. Others powerful Magic: The Gathering short as The Lord of the RingsOrcish Bowmasters or Modern Horizons 3's Detective's Phoenix are also often in play and pair nicely with Fear of Missing Out. Classics like Lightning Bolt and Thoughtseize help take the win with extra damage and small mana costs, making Rakdos Delirium a powerful deck that can win in just a few turns.
It's unclear if Fear of Missing Out will increase again or if this is its final price for a while, so those interested in trying out Rakdo's Delirium can avoid the actual fear of missing out by buying the card now or shopping for it at their local game stores. For now, this Magic: The Gathering The Duskmourn rare has quickly risen in popularity and is likely to remain in the meta.
