My hero Academy is undoubtedly one of the largest and most recognizable sh blas in the modern era. While Kohei Horikoshi's original manga was already a masterpiece, the global popularity of this franchise can be partially attributed to Bones excellent animated adaptation.
This anime is extremely successful thanks to its incredible animation, its film-like film and its high quality voice that acts, but, curious enough, it is not a one-to-a-adjustment of its source material. Although much more faithful than most old school shōnen anime, there are still some dazzling differences between My hero Academy Anime and My hero Academy MangaAnd the following eight are the most notorious to date.
The order of some bows
ENDEAVOR AGENCY ARC and my villain Akademia was changed around
Season 5 off My hero Academy Is notorious among the fans of doing something completely outstanding: it changed about two major stories. In the original manganese, Meta liberation army arc (Aka My villain academy) come right before The pursuit of agencySo that readers could witness how the scurry first became stronger and how their alliance with Meta Liberation Army affected the Hero Society from the shadows others.
For some reason, Anime decided to change the order on these arches, with the pursuit of arc that is sent first and meta liberation Army Arc which is broadcast others instead. As a result, it has this strange story about the order where re-destroy is presented because this mysterious figure and viewers finally find out who he is at the end of the season. It was an interesting change in the beat, to say the least, but it made the story feel unnecessarily confusing, not to mention that it spoiled that the villain had become stronger before it even happened.
My rugging academy is missing any scenes
The most unrealing change in season 5
But it was not the only major change the season 5 of anime that was made, as the content of the Meta Liberation Army Arc also changed significantly. Not only does its plot feel incredibly rushed, which reduced the impact it had on the overall story, but some important scenes were completely cut.
To begin with, Spinner Had a much bigger role in the original manganese, and most of his best scenes were omitted from anime (granted, some of them were later adapted, during seasons 6 and 7, but it was already too late). On the other hand, Re-Destro's The role of CEO of Detner was much more prominent in manganese, where he originally played in an advertisement that was supposed to show how he was seen by the public eye. This worked brilliantly because it took place before his true evil nature was revealed to the reader, but unfortunately it was completely cut from anime (who had already spoiled that he is a villain by changing the arc anyway).
Unnecessary flashbacks
Sometimes anime has to add things in Pad Time
Anime adaptation of Endeavor Agency Arc polarized not only because it was placed before Meta Liberation Army Arc instead of it, but also because it was tormented by unnecessary Flashback sequences It felt like they were only added to Pad Time. Of course, most of these were nowhere to see in the original manganese.
Seasons 5 and 6 are filled to the edge with flashback sequences which, although they sometimes work well, can completely destroy the otherwise rapid stimulation of their arches. The common arc, which saw the long-awaited return of many prominent characters from Class 1-A and Class 1-B, was also taken down by this polarizing issue. Fortunately, season 7 had very few flashbacks in itself, so it seems that Bones has finally learned his lesson and stopped doing this.
Provisional Hero License exam is slightly longer in anime
Adaptation added some filling episodes that raised the story
Unlike most old school shōnen anime, My hero Academy Fortunately, have a little-to-no filling pisodes. But, curious enough, the few, it actually works in favor of the story by showing viewers important events that were never seen in the original manganese. The Provisional Hero License exam Particularly favored by this more than any other bow.
Shoto Todoroki's short meeting with Seijin High School students and Momo Yayaorozu's confrontation with Saiko Intelli was 100% anime original, and they were brilliant ways to show how some of the other Class 1-A members struggled to pass this life-ended exam. But this is not even the only time anime adds important scenes of things that were invisible to the source material, such as section 32 depicted Tsuyu Asui's practice with Selkie, something she only mentioned in passersby in manganese.
Manganese is scary
Its disturbing art does not translate well into anime
Although it is a happy superhero story, My hero Academy can be surprising dark and disturbing at times. This is particularly clear in the original manganese, where author Kohei Horikoshi's art sometimes stands out to be extremely shocking and grotesque. It should be no surprise that he has already claimed that he wants to draw a horror in the near future.
Some scenes that were completely bone cooling in manganese-like Shigaraki's smile towards the mall or everything for someone who breaks out from Shigaraki's face-serving creepy out in anime, but they really don't pack the same punch. Their manga counterparts were raised by the combination of Horikoshi's extremely detailed art and their black and white color, while in Anime the same scenes see much more streamlined and colorful, possibly due to TV guidelines, budget issues and/or censorship.
Censorship
Anime is much less violent
Due to restrictions introduced by Japanese television guidelines, it is common for animated adaptations of Shōnen Manga to be censored: It happened Dragon ballIt happened A bit And of course it happened to My hero Academy on more than one occasion.
The original manganese does not deter from showing as much uncensored violence as this story needs (which does not even qualify as Gore), but Anime usually tones it down significantly, and unfortunately it reduces the effects of these scenes. Some prominent examples include: Review of temporarily killing rap, reconsideration of their own legs, Mirko's final position against the five nomu, the gravel death of Tenko Shimura's family and many more.
Minor design changes
Anime often changes the character's pattern (especially women's)
It denies nothing My hero Academy have some of the most distinct, creative and complex character design In the action shōnen genre, and this feeling applies to both its heroes and villains. But many -medium often allows writers to implement more complex patterns (because they are only depicted in static illustrations) while anime – which has animated movement – is on a completely different level.
Because of this unfortunate reality, My hero Academy Anime was forced to tone down some of the most complicated character designs for her animators, with some prominent examples such as Vigilante Deku, Hawks, Shigaraki, all for one, Inasa Yoorashi, Re-Destro and Armored All Might. It is also worth pointing out that Anime has significantly changed the proportion of some of its female characters, which were a little more realistic in manganese, and this bizarre change has received strong negative criticism from female audience.
Connection to my hero Academia: Vigilantes
Manga -readers enjoyed a certain plot twisting much more
My hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spin-off manga that was served at the same time as the head My hero Academy Manga, and although both stories were largely unmanaged to each other, there was a significant plot development that could be enjoyed and of course better by those who actively read spin-off.
The moment when it was revealed that Kurogiri is a nomu made with the remains of Oboro Shirakumo, Radre rubber and current Mic's childhood friend, was definitely quite shocking, though Vigilant The readers thought it was particularly heartbreaking because they got to meet Shirakumo from first and foremost in a long and tragic flashback arch. Unfortunately, anime-only fans never got to experience that shock, and they will never do so, because the Curogiri disclosure was already adapted in season 6, while Vigilant Anime began to be broadcast in early 2025, and its Oboro Shirakumo Flashback will not be adapted for a few more years.
