The forest: Best base locations
The Forest is a great survival horror game that has many options for great base builds, but choosing the right location is important.
By focusing on key items that address shelter, food, water, and defense, a player can greatly improve their chances of surviving the early days of the game and progressing further. Some early game items are absolutely necessary, especially those that help the player secure food and store water. A safe home is also something the player needs to build as soon as possible, although this can be left until create the basics has been covered.
8
Weak spear
For defense and hunting
Starting in The forest follows a fairly standard template for survival games. The first thing a player needs to do is secure a source of water and food, as well as create a basic shelter. Against these goals, they must create something to hunt and defend with. The Weak spear is the easiest option.

The Forest: 10 Best Weapons, Ranked
To be safe and take down monsters, players need the right weapon. Here are the best tools for staying alive in The Forest.
The Weak Spear is, well, weak, but it's good enough in the early game to kill birds and small animals to eat and also to use as a defensive weapon, as it has a nice long range, keeping cannibals at bay . Since it only takes two sticks to craft, it's a no-brainer.
7
Basic fire
For warmth and cooking
Once a player has created the weak spear, they have a way to hunt small game and birds, and can also spear fish in pools of water. However, it is not advisable to eat raw meat. Also, raw meat in the player's inventory goes bad very quickly.
To create Basic fire gives the player a way to cook any meat they manage to harvest while hunting. This makes the meat more suitable to eat, and also extends the time it takes for the meat to go bad. Also, a Basic Fire is all that is needed to keep a player warm at night.
6
Hunting lodge
Basic protection

Craft requirements:

Needles: 7

Logs: 7

As mentioned, Basic Ffire is all a player needs to stay warm in the cold of night, but it still makes sense to build a hunting shelter early on. Having a shelter provides two benefits. First, it can be used to sleep through the night, moving the clock forward to morning. Second, it can be used to trigger a game save.
The Hunting Shelter is quick and easy to build and can be placed right next to a Basic Fire. The player will need to use their ax (which is a spawn item) to chop down some trees to get the necessary logs, but this is fairly quick to accomplish.
5
Water Skin
Expand the exploration area
Food and drink is an important factor The forest. Food is fairly easy to come by, but fresh water is only available from puddles that the player can drink from. This means that the player must find a source of water regularly while out exploring.

The forest: Best ways to get sticks
Sticks are needed to construct a wide variety of important items in The Forest. Here are the best ways to get them.
Crafts a Water Skin allows the player to carry a decent amount of water, which will keep them alive if they are exploring or hunting in a region where there is no readily available surface water to drink.

Manufactured bow
Simple ranged weapon
-
Craft requirements:
-
Stick: 1
-
Rep: 1
-
Cloth: 1

Hunting with the Basic Spear is good for small game, but for larger animals a ranged weapon is a better option. The Manufactured bow is the easiest ranged weapon to do in The forest. However, it must be said that it can take some time to master using it.
Normal arrows are pretty easy to make. They only require 1 stick and 5 quills to make a stack of 5 arrows. Another benefit of the Crafted Bow is that it is fairly stealthy and can be used (carefully) to take out cannibals without triggering a major attack.
3
Water collector
Local water source
-
Craft requirements:
-
Sticks: 4
-
Tortoise shell: 1
-
Even if a player has created a water skin The forestthey will still need to make frequent trips to a source of clean water to refill it. This can be a bit of a hassle, especially if the player has built a base some distance from such a water source.
Build a Water collector makes sense, and it's something that all players will want to create. It collects rainwater that the players can then drink. The turtle shell is very easy to come by, as there are plenty of turtles along the coast on every beach.
2
Small cabinet
To store resources
The player inventory i The forest is pretty small, and after just an hour or two of gaming there's already a need for more storage. The easiest storage container to make is Small cabinetand it only takes a few logs.
Family
The forest: Best light sources
Among the available light sources in the forest, some may outshine the rest in terms of practicality and accessibility.
However, players should consider where they want to place their main base before starting to craft storage containers, as emptying them and moving them later will be a bit of a problem. There are also specialized storage containers for weapons and other specific resources such as logs.
1
Safe base
Consider a houseboat
-
Craft requirements:
-
Sticks: 4
-
Logs: 40
-
Rep: 4
-
The only way to be completely safe from cannibal attacks in The forestis to build a base they can't get to. There are a few options for doing this. The player can build a tree house or a specially designed structure on land. However, this will still mean that cannibals can besiege the player's base.
A good alternative is the houseboat. This can be built on the shoreline and moved so far out to sea that cannibals can't get to it. Also, it can be easily moved if the player decides to move to another area.
