The best Seinen anime to watch

Seinen manga and anime refer to media aimed at young adults and grown men. Within this category you can find many genres, from gritty fantasy to relaxing slice-of-life. But generally speaking, the seinen feel a bit more mature than the shonen, which is perfect for an older audience.

8 Best Psychological Horror Anime

We go through some of the most disturbing series and movies that the world of anime has to offer. Don't expect an easy time for your mind.

Wondering what the best seinen anime are? In this list, we'll take a look at some of the best seinen anime out there, and rank them as we go. It's important to note that there is no objective “best” for any anime genre; if your favorite isn't here, it doesn't mean it's bad!

9 Psycho-Pass

Three main characters from Psycho-Pass.

First of all, we have Psycho-Pass. This is a sci-fi series set in a world where even thinking about committing a crime can make you guilty. The overall tone of this anime is dark and dystopian, which is perfect for those looking for a show that's a little more gritty than others.

If you're a fan of movies like Minority Report, then Psycho-Pass is for you. Both mediums approach crime in a similar way, but they are unique enough that both are worth watching!

8 Kaguya-sama: Love is war

Key art for Anime Kaguya-sama: Love Is War

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War is an interesting addition to this list because even if it is, it appeals to a wide range of people. The anime has something for everyone; humor, romance, lovable characters and outlandish scenarios at a school for the ultra-rich.

Overall, the heart of Kaguya-sama: Love is War revolves around the growing love between the two main characters, but the episodic antics and comedic storytelling make the anime so much more than a high school romance.

7 Kingdom

Key artwork from anime Kingdom.

Kingdom is a long-running manga and anime set in a fictional version of the Chinese Warring States period, which was around 220 BC. Although the events are fictional, the characters have real-life counterparts, such as Li Xin, who was a military general.

Along with Li Xin, the Kingdom will accompany him on his journey to become the greatest general in the… Kingdom. His ultimate goal is to become emperor, but this does not happen smoothly or quickly, so you can follow along for well over 100 episodes.

6 Parasyte: The Maxim

Parasyte: Maxim Shinichi Izumi holding Migi forward.

Parastye follows Shinichi, who lives in a world where alien creatures have invaded Earth. Instead of giving in to the violent creatures, Shinichi befriends Migi, who is an alien who somehow becomes his right-hand man.

8 Best Anime That Will Make You Cry

If these anime don't make you shed a tear, nothing will.

Together, the two fight other parasites they encounter. Make no mistake though, Parasyte is a horror anime, filled with terrifying monsters and creepy animation. While not necessarily scary, it's definitely gory and creepy.

5 Mushishi

The main character from Mushishi smokes outside.

Next we have Mushishi. This anime follows Ginko, a supernatural Mushi who travels around to learn more about himself. This also includes his journey to help others and ultimately find meaning in his life.

Mushishi is unique among anime dealing with supernatural concepts. Instead of being a hero or a chosen figure, Ginko is simply a laid-back guy trying to understand both himself and the world around him.

4 Berserk

Artwork from Beserk, showing Guts walk forward.

By now most of us know what Berserk is. If you still haven't seen it, take this as your cue to start. Berserk follows Guts, whose main goal is revenge. While many consider the anime inferior to the manga, it is worth watching, especially if you read the manga first.

We suggest that you first check out the original anime series from 1997. The newer series that came out in 2016 is often criticized for its poor use of CGI. If you want to experience as much Berserk as possible, it's still worth watching.

3 Vinland Saga

Vinland Saga Cinderella And Thornfinn Watch The Sunset

Vinland Saga throws us into the land of the Vikings and follows Thorfinn, who is the main character. Along the way you can experience the difficulties that Thorfinn faces. Overall, Vinland Saga is packed with great character development, great writing, and a compelling plot.

Spanning over 40 years, we take a look at the best Gundam anime series.

This anime does a great job of weaving together history and the violence that comes with the Vikings in a way that leaves you wanting more after each episode.

2 Mars enters as a lion

The main characters from March Comes In Like A Lion are looking forward.

Doing a complete 180 from Vinland Saga, we have March Comes In Like A Lion. Set in modern Tokyo (Shinkawa, to be exact), this show follows Rei Kiriyama. Without any family, Kiriyama lives alone while being a professional shogi player.

March Comes In Like A Lion is my favorite anime on this list! The story is deeply gripping and emotional and will stay with you for a while.

March Comes In Like A Lion deals with serious subjects and drama, taking us through the life of an introverted young adult just trying to survive in the world. If you've ever struggled with depression or anxiety, March Comes In Like A Lion is worth watching.

1 Monster

Dr. Temna from the anime Monster.

First and foremost, we have Monsters. Although the show is wildly popular, it can sometimes be a bit underrated. Monster accompanies Dr. Tenma, who starts out as a brain surgeon. Of course, things don't go according to plan and Tenma is accused of being a serial killer.

It's hard to say much about Monster without spoiling the plot, but just know that this show has 74 episodes full of phenomenal storytelling and character development. Overall, Monster is a must-watch for any anime fan.
