The Crunchyroll Awards for this year, 2025, came up with a certain controversy, which is not exactly unusual for this type of event. The controversy has to do with the anime chosen as this year's anime, perhaps the most prestigious award at this event. The selected anime was solo niveness.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has become an iconic anime in society, and the friere has quickly become a fan favorite. The story has moved many people with their melancholy themes. The action and animation cannot be underestimated either, and both are good in their own consideration.

While Fresh Did not win this year's anime, it won in some other categories, especially best background art, best drama and best supportive character. As such, it is also not a total loss for the series, unlike any other major anime.
