Silksong is already one of the most played indie games on Steam

Summary

  • After a seven -year wait, Silksong was launched and broke several shops and servers.

  • Topped on ~ 535,000 simultaneous steam players, second highest indie summit and at most for a paid indie.

  • Surpassed large indie and AAA -apart bills; This weekend's demand can drive it higher.

After a long and severe seven -year wait, I don't think there was ever doubt that Hollow Knight: Silksong would be something other than a phenomenon. Somehow, it still managed to exceed it.

The second one launched it broke almost all major stores, including Steam, Nintendo Eshop and Playstation Store, and within a handful of hours it had already broken half a million simultaneous players on Steam.

The number of players is the dream for almost every developer, and it is the 18th highest simultaneous player that is counted as the valve-owned platform has ever seen, but compared to its contemporary, Silksong's 535,000 players have the second highest indie game ever achieved.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is on its way to an astonishing start

In Steam's history, only one Indie game has ever achieved more simultaneous players than Hollow Knight: Silksong (if you exclude Banana, a “game” where you literally just click on a banana over and over again).

The Single Indie game to beat Hollow Knight: Silksong's huge player count is a social deduction game called Goose Goose Duck, which was released on October 3, 2021 and topped on just over 700,000 players in January 2023.

It is worth noting that Goose Goose Duck is, and has always been, a free-to-game game, so the silksong is the indie game with the highest number of players that you have to pay for.

The 535,000 players that the hollow Knight sequel reached last night helped to surpass a number of other Indie lover, including Valheim (502,387), Schedule I (459,075), and among us (447,476), along with some large triple-titles. These include GTA V, Monster Hunter World and Skyrim.

Only one game released this year, Monster Hunter Wilds, has darkened Silksong's simultaneous number of players and beats an astonishing 1,384,608 players at launch. However, that game has been tormented by problems, currently sitting on “mostly negative” in its latest steam reviews and seemingly struggling to sell copies.

With the weekend coming, and those who abandoned hope to download and play Hollow Knight: Silksong because of the store problems, the sky is really the limit. Whatever happens, however, it is another big profit for Indie's 2025.
