At the end of Life is Strange: Double ExposureSafi goes into Magneto mode. Now that she knows she's not alone in having supernatural powers, she wants to travel the world and find other people who have similar abilities. She plans to go it alone, leaving Max Caulfield behind to live her life at Caledon University.
But she also needs to know, when she returns one day, will Max help her learn and wield her powers? Or will she continue to ignore her time traveling ability and encourage Safi to do the same? In this guide, we'll examine the implications of each decision: join Safi or refuse.
Updated April 22, 2026 by Ben Jessey: The decision to support Safi or not at the end of Life Is Strange: Double Exposure is even more important now as the consequences extend into the sequel. So we thought we'd go back to our guide on the choice to add information on how it affects Life Is Strange Reunion.
What happens if you join Safi?
If you accept and say you'll be there to help when she gets back, Safi hugs Max, and the pair say a hearty goodbye. Max says she'll wait for her to come back and tells her to be safe. Safi leaves. Max smiles bittersweetly and turns to help Yasmin.
So far, so good. But later, Moses chastises Max for not standing up to his best friend. “She did some horrible things, Max,” he says, “and you basically gave her your approval.” Can't argue with that.
On the plus side is results screen for this choice tells you that: “Safi still believes in you.”

What happens if you refuse Safi?
If you decline her offer Max backs down, saying she knows the harm that comes from constantly using these powers. Safi changes form to Max and says, “Okay, Max Caulfield. See you?” Then walks away. Max turns to Yasmin and helps her.
Later, at the Snapping Turtle, Moses says he is glad you stood up to Safi and believes it can make a difference.
But making the difficult choice leaves Max's best friend hurt. The end results screen will tell you that this choice makes Safi feel it “you have abandoned her like everyone else.”
How the decision affects life is strange: Reunion
At the beginning of the sequel, Life Is Strange: Reunion, you are forced to make a series of choices that revolve around what happened in the previous installments. This way you can tell the game what decisions you made and recreate your LiS universe.
One of those choices is whether or not you agreed to stick with Safi at the end of Double Exposure. Therefore it is a decision that affects two matches.
Spoilers ahead for Reunion!
In Reunion, a Safi whom Max refused to support will trust the protagonist less.
This comes forward later in the game when Safi is ready to give up her lifeand you try to talk her out of it. If Max didn't support her, it is more difficult to convince her that she is loved and that she should live. If Max showed support, then it's easier to save her.
So when it comes to Reunion, there is no advantage in refusing her.
