Nintendo reveals release date for new LEGO set

Two of Nintendo's franchises and LEGO are teaming up again for several new themes to be released later in January 2025.

A post made by user RippleDrive on the LEGO Ideas website details plans for a LEGO PS2 set, which has received enough support to be officially considered by the Danish company for mass production. If released, the set would allow PlayStation fans to not only construct a PS2 console out of LEGO bricks, but also make its controllers, memory cards and internal components. In its current state, the set contains over 2,000 pieces and is close to 1:1 scale compared to the original non-slim PlayStation 2. While it's unclear if it will get Sony's approval, fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the design will appear in store shelves sometime in the future. According to RippleDrive, they chose to build the PS2 because it is their “favorite gaming console of all time” and “video game-related LEGO sets have been successful.”

User-submitted PS2 LEGO set could see official release

In 2024, many LEGO sets inspired by video games found success with builders around the world, from those inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizons to Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario 64. The release of LEGO Horizon Adventures for PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch in November also inspired a unique set featuring protagonist Aloy, her ally Varl, and fully articulated Sawtooth and Shell-Walker machines.

In recent years, the series of LEGO video games created by Traveller's Tales has found new popularity, with titles such as the iconic LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga found massive success after its initial release in 2022. While no new LEGO titles have been announced for 2025, fans are hoping to see some new crossovers, with many predicting that a new LEGO Marvel title could be on the horizon.
