If you've been playing Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket's battle mode, especially during the recent event, you've noticed a couple of specific decks popping up over and over again—Mewtwo ex and Pikachu ex.

These decks quickly became meta after the game's launch due to the fact that players can play an incredibly formidable ex card, complete with massive HP and powerful attacks on turn one.

The True Pikachu Ex Counter

The most popular counters to Pikachu ex decks focus on Marowak ex.

Of course, Ground-type Pokemon is number one here, taking advantage of Pikachu's weakness and hitting it for another 20 damage, and Marowak is king here because, with any luck, it can hit Pikachu's ex for 200 damage on just two energy.

Lots of posts have appeared on the TCG Pocket subreddit with people swearing by their Marowak decks, which often also include Dugtrio and Sandslash, and it certainly seems like a solid counter.

The True Mewtwo Ex Counter

Similar to using Marowak as a Counter to Pikachu, players use Weezing and Arbok to counter Mewtwo.

Even if technically speakingthey are both Pokemon-type Pokemon, in the Pokemon TCG they are represented as dark, beating Mewtwo ex for plus 20 damage.

The Weezing/Arbok combo allows players to poison opposing Pokemon before capturing them. These Pokémon cannot retreat and take poison damage every turn. Coupled with Sabrina or Pidgeot, which forces the opponent to switch out their active Pokemon, and this deck is a force to be reckoned with.

Other successful TCG Pocket Decks

Another popular option that has been shared on the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket subreddit is the Starmie ex deck. Its ability to hit hard and fast, with 90 damage from two energy, and the ability to stack energy quickly with Misty have made it a popular choice. It suffers a bit against Pikachu EX, but if it goes your way, it's a viable option. Plus bonus points for countering another meta deck—Charizard ex.

Along with Starmie, one player showed off his Venusaur ex-deck. It doesn't suffer from a weakness to Pikachu or Mewtwo, and while its energy cost is higher, along with Erika, this deck excels at keeping its high HP Pokemon healthy.

Another popular deck that regularly appears on the TCG Pocket subreddit revolves around Exeggutor ex. For a single paltry energy, Exeggutor can hit for 80 damage, and its 160 HP means it can withstand both Pikachu and Mewtwo's most powerful attack. Pairing that with the Butterfree campaign from the last Lapras challenge and Erika will give Exeggutor even more longevity, making it a nail in the sides of those meta decks.
