Important takeaways
- Pokemon's premium Lugia and Ho-Oh plushies have already been released outside of Japan.
- The premium plushes were unveiled alongside the rest of a new collection celebrating gold and silver's jubilee.
- None of the other items in the range, including the jackets, have been released outside of Japan yet.
Developers can be guilty of letting significant milestones pass without recognition, which is why it was nice to see Pokemon honor Gold & Silver at the games' 25th anniversary last week. It revealed a range of very special merchandise to celebrate the occasion, the caveat being that merchandise was only available in Japan. However, it didn't take long for some of it to arrive in the US and other Pokemon Centers around the world.
Headlining the Pokemon Gold and Silver Anniversary series are two premium plushies modeled after the games' cover stars, Ho-Oh and Lugia. The plushes have been described as premium for a few reasons. They're bigger than Pokemon's regular soft toys, they're poseable, and they're slightly different colors to better represent the games where they were introduced to the series.

Shiny Rayquaza plush sparks excitement and fear among sitting cutie complements
If every Sitting Cutie gets a shiny variant, my bank account is about to have a lot of trouble.
Ho-Oh's plush is gold and Lugia's is silver, and both are available for purchase right now at the US Pokemon Center. Because the plushies are larger and more premium than regular ones, they are also a bit more expensive than most other Pokemon plushies. $49.99 each which means $100 for the pair. Based on the love that still exists for the second set of Pokémon games in the series two and a half decades later, there will be some of you who will want both.
Pokemon's premium gold and silver plushies have already made their way to the US
They weren't exclusive to Japan for long
That it's only taken a few days for the plushies to be released after the initial reveal in Japan is good news. The bad news is that none of the other items in the commemorative Gold & Silver collection have followed them, and there was quite a bit of stuff. Especially the jackets. Each game has its own jacket with Ho-Oh on the Gold one and Lugia repa Silver. The best part is the map of Johto that lines the jackets, but for now they remain exclusive to the Japanese Pokemon Center.

Pokemon Gold & Silver Legends: Ho-Oh Plush
Pokemon celebrated Gold & Silver's 50th anniversary by releasing a range of new products to mark the occasion. Of course, Gold's cover star Ho-Oh was the star of many of these items, even getting his own premium plush where the legendary bird has been given a gold makeover to match the game it comes from.

Pokemon Gold & Silver Legends: Lugia Plush
Part of Pokemon Gold and Silver's 25th anniversary celebrations, it revealed a whole host of new products to celebrate the games that were effectively sequels to the originals. This premium Lugia plush is part of that collection. Almost 18 inches tall with swivel arms and a silver cape as it graced the game cover.
The collection also includes some other fun novelties such as an eraser that has been designed to look like a bottle of Moo Moo Milk and a trash can with “No, there's only trash here” printed inside. While we wait for all that other stuff to hopefully join Ho-Oh and Lugia in the US, there are new Squishmallows to distract us. Chansey and Eevee have joined Pokemon's Squishmallow collection and both are available for pre-order now ready for their January 2025 release.
