They were lucky enough to find the Venusaur ex card in their first booster pack purchase in 20 years. The Pokemon TCG tabletop and trading card game published eight expansion sets between 1998 and 2003 under Wizards of the Coast before The Pokemon Company took over the licensing. Similar to the OG collector coming back into the game after 20 years, it's pretty common for fans to dip in and out of the hobby, and the game's expansion releases show no signs of slowing down.
Building on the success of the trading card game, it was released in 2024 Pokemon TCG: Pocketwhich provided a digital alternative to card collection. Trainers can open virtual packs for free using in-game collectibles, and fans don't have to worry about physically storing the draws. The collector noted that this was the first time they had purchased a booster pack in 20 years, having put the collection on hiatus since the early 2000s. After hearing Pokemon TCG released a set of the original 151 Pokémon, the collector knew they wanted to return to the hobby, similar to another Pokémon fan who made an incredible draw from last time Scarlet and Violet 151 box at their local store. Additionally, fans were impressed with the evolution of the artwork since they last got their hands on some cards.
