Overwatch Announces 10th Anniversary Event and Rewards

Monitoring is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month and Blizzard has revealed a special in-game event that players can look forward to as well as all the different loot boxes and rewards that will be available. It has been a long and winding road Monitoring over the past 10 years, with plenty of ups and downs for the popular hero shooter.

In fact, Monitoring went through its biggest transformation yet in 2026. Many would argue that Blizzard lost its way a bit by ending the original Monitoring and by replacing it with a dedicated sequel, the studio eventually found its footing and continued to improve the game before unleashing its biggest update to date. In February, Blizzard announced a massive overhaul for Monitoring by removing the “2” from the title and completely reworking the game's narrative elements. In addition to many other improvements and changes, Blizzard released 5 new heroes for Season 1, with 5 more to be launched throughout the rest of the year. Not only was it a big splash, but it paid off Monitoring reach new levels of popularity.

With Overwatch delivering win after win lately, it's easier than ever to imagine a world where the gap becomes too big for Marvel Rivals to overcome.

Overwatch celebrates 10 years with a new event

Even though we launched a sequel back in 2023 and basically rebranded it back to Monitoring earlier this year, Blizzard announced plans to celebrate the franchise's 10th anniversary. The original Monitoring launched on May 24th, 2016, and Blizzard is looking to celebrate that longevity. Overwatch Anniversary 2026 kicks off on May 12th and runs through June 1st with a variety of cosmetic rewards up for grabs as well, but as it stands, it's unknown exactly what will be given away for free, what's paid, and what can potentially be earned.

The official's Twitter page Monitoring account reveals many of the cosmetic rewards that will be available, though it lacks some details that an accompanying trailer or blog post will likely serve to fill in. For now, Blizzard has confirmed that the Anniversary event will include 21 launch hero skins, 15 anniversary slot boxes, 33 development team and community made on e.g. with number 10 wearing what appear to be Mercy wings. Again, details on what the cosmetics will look like as well as which characters will receive them remain unknown for now, although Mercy, Tracer, and Winston are in the picture. It goes without saying that the original Monitoring the cast will be heavily featured as this is an anniversary event.

As for what players can potentially earn, the graphic mentions that players can earn exclusive commemorative titles. There also appears to be a community challenge that will start during the event, where everyone works together to complete challenges and earn Monitorings legendary loot boxes every week. The post also teases “much more,” hinting that more announcements will be made ahead of the event's arrival this week.

Before the event launches, fans have a limited time to earn more loot boxes by participating Monitorings current event known as Junkrat's Loot Hunt. From May 8-12, players have been able to earn up to nine free Loot Boxes by playing the game, while also doubling their Battle Pass XP earnings. With only a limited time left to take advantage of, Blizzard is not waiting to launch another lucrative event for players, which Monitoring will then dive straight into its Anniversary content.
