One Piece has the chance to end 2024 with a bang

2024 has marked twenty-five years of One Pieces anime. With over 1,100 episodes of anime and manga, fifteen feature films, tons of video games, a live action adaptation and much more, One Piece has cemented itself in popular culture as a giant. The franchise has already released a variety of content to mark its twenty-fifth anniversary, but some recent events regarding the franchise's future could make now an opportune time for even more content.

On October 20, the franchise officially celebrated its anniversary with the release of One Piece Fan Lettera loose adaptation of One Piece novel Straw Hat Stories. This release came a week after an announcement from Oda that shocked fans, but left them on the edge of their seats.

One Piece: Why Zoro's Elbaf Power-Up Might Be Hard to Adapt to Video Games

Zoro is no exception to the growth the Straw Hats will undergo in Elbaf, but the new powers he gains can be difficult to adapt to the game.

One Piece's Anime and Manga are on hiatus

Both One Piece anime and manga will take a break. The manga's hiatus is shorter, with chapter 1131 scheduled for release on November 11 as Oda has called for a much-needed break. The release schedule for One Piece's manga usually has Oda pumping out three chapters before taking a week off. This time, Oda gets two weeks off due to his involvement in Netflix's live action adaptation of One Piece. Oda has confirmed that he has traveled to South Africa to visit the set and oversee the production. Depending on the length of filming for the live action adaptation, Oda may make more visits, resulting in longer breaks between manga chapters. While Oda definitely deserves these breaks, fans may be pissed considering how long they've been waiting for the ongoing Elbaf arc.

Likewise, the anime's six-month hiatus will give the staff at Toei Animation plenty of reprieve after delivering the masterfully crafted Wano Country arc. Veteran animators of One Piece have described their need for the hiatus, which could only occur after talks between Toei Animation, distributors and stakeholders. Meanwhile, a remastered version of Fishman Island airs One Pieces time slot.

While these upcoming hiatuses won't leave fans starved for content, this hiatus marks a great opportunity for the franchise to continue releasing announcements. The announcement of the remastered version of the Fishman Island arc has been well received, as fans have noted that the arc has been covered before, but some completely fresh content should also make its way into the franchise and hopefully in the form of a new One Piece game title.

It's time for a new One Piece video game

One Piece Odyssey is the latest One Piece mainline video game installment. Released in 2023, Odyssey gave fans the opportunity to explore previous arcs in One Pieces story while introducing new story elements. However, this leaves the game's plot a bit dated compared to the manga and anime. The latest arc with i Odyssey is Dressrosa, which ended in 2016. Fixed mobile game under One Pieces umbrella which One Piece: Bounty Rush and One Piece: Treasure Cruise is catching up with the history of the franchise, PC and console titles have been left in the dark.

Some of the most powerful beats and character abilities in One Piece has not yet been adapted to video games. The Wano Country arc was not only a feat in the franchise's animation, it showed the Straw Hats at their most formidable yet. With iconic moments like Robin's fight with Black Maria, Zoro and Kaidou's showdown, and, of course, Luffy's transformation into Gear 5, the Wano Country arc needs to be adapted to the video game format, preferably as soon as possible.

Obviously, it would be impossible for a studio to pump out a high quality One Piece video games at the end of the year. But an announcement would definitely boost fan morale and be another great way to celebrate One Piecetwenty-fifth anniversary.
