One Piece explains two major powers that Luffy needs to defeat Imu

One Piece's The Elbaf arc has surprised all fans with the sheer focus it has given to the main overall antagonist of the series, Saint Imu Nerona. The fans know that very well Imu is the biggest and most important villain in all One Piecewhich is why most expected him to focus on only at the end of One Piece. That said, the series is in the Final Saga after all, so Oda revealing important bits and pieces about him shouldn't be a surprise either.

Regardless, One Piece's Elbaf arc introduced Imu as the main villain, with them taking over Gunko's body in Elbaf. Meanwhile, in the Loki flashback, fans saw Imu do the same thing in the God Valley, only there the ship's body was none other than Saturn. Imu's overwhelming power was clearly seen in One Piece chapter 1163, where also the alliance of Roger, Garp, Rocks, Whitebeard, Kaido and Big Mom weren't enough to stop Imu. Of course, this leaves fans wondering exactly what it will take to stop this monstrous individual, and surprisingly, Oda has already revealed the answer to that question. To beat Imu, Luffy must master the power of it. Nika fruit, and achieve Haki at the Joy Boy level.

Imu cannot be defeated by normal means, and that is something that everyone is a fan of One Piece should already know. Imu is an immortal being and one that carries immense power. Beating them is not possible even for the biggest alliance that fans saw in One Piece chapter 1163, so how exactly can Imu be taken down? The answer lies in the opposite of their ability, and it is Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.

While Imu is darkness and evil, Luffy represents good and light. Imu turns others into slaves using the power of Domi Reversi. Luffy will free them with the power of Gear 5, as the warrior of liberation. Luffy is the exact opposite of Imu, and that's exactly why he has a chance against him. To counter Imus Domi Reversi, Luffy must use his Devil Fruit powers to turn the tables in his favor, and that's exactly what fans will see happen when the main battles begin.

But the Gear 5 is not enough on its own. Luffy also needs powerful Haki, which he doesn't currently have. To truly cleanse Elbaf of Imu, Luffy needs access to Joy Boy level Haki. First of all, when the five elders attacked Egghead, the only way to beat them was for Emeth to unleash Joy Boy's Haki. Joy Boy himself stated that it was his strongest Haki. Only after the Haki was unleashed were the demonic summons nullified. In God Valley, even if the pirates combined their Haki, they could not to thwart Imu's powers. In other words, their Haki was not as good as the Joy Boys.

Luffy vs Imu will be one of the biggest matches in all One Pieceand to beat the latter, the two weapons Luffy needs are already pretty clear. Luffy must master Gear 5 to the point where he can compete Imu's Domi Reversi and does the exact opposite with his imagination. Along with that, Luffy needs to master his Haki to the same level as Joy Boyand when he does so, he can actually harm the sovereign of the world.
