By the main pursuit of Oblivion remasteredPlayers will of course come close to Martin Septim when they work to stop the Daedric invasion. Silent, humble and unsure of himself, Martin is the complete opposite of Kvatch's adventurous hero, but when the two work together, many players will feel a certain affinity for Martin.
Martin's silent behavior hides an intelligence and strong will. Having to deal with suddenly becoming the most important man in the empire and fighting with the death of a family he never knew he had, Martin focuses on the task – but he was not always so. Martin septim used to live a completely different life before the events in Oblivion.

Who was Martin Septim before the Oblivion crisis?
Martin was born as the illegitimate son of the emperor Uriel Septim VII to an unknown mother, but instead of being naturalized in the family, he was sent away without knowledge of his true heritage. He believed that his parents were simple farmers and that his life would follow a similar path. When he was growing up, Uriel asked JaUFFER to check Martin from time to time and kept a remote eye on the foreign son without revealing the emperor's interest.
Martin searched something less everyday and participated in the Mages Guild, but soon got tired of the rules and protocols on apprentices. Martin and some other students began to seek more exciting ways to explore magic and look at darker, forbidden Lore that led them to the Daedra worship. Martin was particularly drawn to Daedric Prince Sanguine, a popular choice among young Daedra worshipers, as he could fulfill their wildest wishes. On one occasion, Prince of Revelry even talented even Martin with his artifact, Sanguines Ros, a reward for how deeply involved he was with the prince.
But Sanguine is darker than he works and does not just let his followers live in leisure. The prince requires that every new exploration of desire is deeper and darker than the last. What started as a fun time can quickly develop, and Martin found out the hard way. As he sank in Sanguine's grip, his friends began to die around him, a consequence of their jobs, and Martin knew he had to come out.
Martin ran away from his old life, joined the chapel in Akatosh in Kvatch, where he became a priest, tended to the locals and reflected on mistakes from his past. When a Daedric portal was opened in the city, Martin organized the defense of the chapel and barricaded himself and many of the locals inside, secure from Daedra until the Kvatch hero could save them all.

Why is it to be a septim so important to Martin and fate for Tamriel?
Mythic Dawn managed to open portals for oblivion because an ancient contract between deadly and Akatosh, the time of dragonfish, was broken. As long as a Dragonborn emperor sits on the throne, and dragonfires are illuminated, Tamriel cannot be freely reached by Daedra. As a symbol of this arrangement, Emperor was given the former amulet of kings, which only they can carry. With Uriel Septim dead, and no Emperor to take their place, Dragonfires went out, and the barrier between Mundus and Oblivion was interrupted.
Martin comes from the long line of Septim emperors, descended from Tiber Septim, founder of the third empire, and he is the last hope of having a Dragonborn -ruler on the throne. Martin's final victim at the end of the main search was something he was forced by the extreme circumstances of Mehrune's Dagon himself that entered Tamriel, because usually lighting dragonfires would suffice. With its transformation into an avatar of Akatosh, the barrier was sealed forever, but the empire would never be the same again.
