Since the release of Baldur's Gate 3 in August 2023, fans have been waiting for a new release from Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro to fill the void. And while there is nothing new Baldur's Gate game coming out anytime soon, there will be a new release on July 21st for fans to add to their collection.
Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the decade's biggest critical and commercial successes to date. Larian's epic CRPG won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023, following a nearly three-year early access period to huge acclaim. While Larian was no stranger to fans of the CRPG genre thanks to Divinity series, its latest title catapulted the studio to more mainstream success.
Baldur's Gate 3: The Necromancy of Thay is released on July 21
Coming via Penguin Random House, Baldur's Gate 3: The Necromancy of Thay is a new grid-bound notebook designed for “journaling, sketching, adventuring, and more,” making it extremely useful for any Dungeon Masters looking to brainstorm their next Dungeons & Dragons campaign. The design of the book is based on its appearance as an object in Baldur's Gate 3s main mission, and players will immediately be able to recognize its unique design.

Baldur's Gate 3: The Necromancy of Thay is scheduled for release on July 21, 2026, with a price tag of $25. It has a total of 272 pages – plenty of room for planning D&D campaign. Amusingly, Penguin Random House notes that the notebook does not provide the ability to cast the “Speak with Dead” spell, unlike its in-game counterpart. It might not fill the void of a new game in the series, but it's still fun for fans and collectors to pick up for their Baldur's Gate fix.
Unfortunately, it will likely be a very long time before there is a new game in the game Baldur's Gate series. Recently, one of the lead designers for the first two games revealed that they turned down the opportunity to make Baldur's Gate 4 after Larian announced it would not be returning. He admits that the expectations placed on Larian are so difficult for others to live up to, meaning any studio that takes it on is fighting against the odds from day one.
As for Larian, its next steps are already ready. At The Game Awards 2025, the developer officially revealed Divinityreturning to its own original IP for the first time since then Divinity: Original Sin 2 in 2017. The studio has promised that the game will be even bigger than Baldur's Gate 3 in terms of its scale, which is a big claim. Whether it can live up to expectations remains to be seen.
