A new official Ghost Recon the release is now available for PS5 and Xbox Series X owners, with Ubisoft launching quietly Ghost Recon: Wildlands Definitive Edition nearly a decade after the original game. Ghost Recon: Wildlands remains one of Ubisoft's most popular and enduring entries in the franchise, and still has a solid player base despite being ten years old, even surpassing newer games in the series.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands originally launched on March 7, 2017, placing players in a fictional open world version of Bolivia controlled by the Santa Blanca Cartel. Wildlands was a significant break from the traditional Ghost Recon formula, giving players much more freedom in gameplay and a strong emphasis on cooperative play with a squad of up to four Ghosts. The shooter would go on to receive the Narco Road and Fallen Ghosts expansions, free missions, Ghost War PvP, tons of crossover content, and a total of two years of post-launch support. Since 2017, Wildlands have maintained a dedicated audience despite being followed by Ghost Recon: Breakpoint 2019, with many players still enjoying its setting, structure and grounded cartel conflict over the last entry's sci-fi premise.
New Ghost Recon: Wildlands Release appears on PS5 and Xbox Series X
Official store pages on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC have been updated as of July 6, 2026, with the new Ghost Recon: Wildlands Definitive Edition priced at $99.99 USD, which includes the Season Pass, Year 2 Pass, Narco Road, Fallen Ghosts, Quick Start Pack, Deluxe Pack and the new Nightfall Protocol and Cole Eye packs. According to the store pages, the Nightfall Protocol and Cold Eye packs are scheduled to be available in-game in August. Nightfall Protocol includes four characters, seven accessories, two parachutes, and four weapons, while Cold Eye includes four characters, three accessories, one parachute, and four more weapons. The official descriptions present these DLCs as gear and character packs, and are not the rumored “Last Rites” story mission that has been doing the rounds recently.

However, Reddit reports claim that images on the Xbox Game Hub advertise a much bigger update too Ghost Recon: Wildlands comes down the line. According to the promotional material, Wildlands on PS5 and Xbox Series X will soon gain support for 4K resolution, 60 FPS gameplay and the aforementioned Last Rites mission, all scheduled for release in early August. A previous change to the PlayStation Store also fueled speculation of a native PS5 release, though the current store page identifies Ghost Recon: Wildlands Definitive Edition as a PS4 version playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility. Fans should note that while Definitive edition and August packs are real, Ubisoft's recent statements have not publicly confirmed a new story expansion or console upgrades.
While bundling existing content into a release is a nice gesture, Wildlands getting 4K and 60 FPS support would be a seriously meaningful improvement if it comes out. Ghost Recon: Wildlands was originally designed for PS4 and Xbox One hardware, so a dedicated version of the current generation can offer smoother battles, faster loading, better visibility and improved responsiveness throughout the game. Adding a new mission nine years after launch would also give lapsed players a good reason to reinstall the game and see what else is new. Additionally, the timing of this release may indicate that Ubisoft may be trying to renew interest in Ghost Recon before revealing the franchise's next big episode.
Ubisoft has yet to clarify whether existing owners will receive a free upgrade, if Definitive edition required, or if there is an upgrade at all. The appearance of this new version of Ghost Recon: Wildlands lends more credence to recent rumors suggesting an upgrade to the current generation is coming soon, but for now fans only have store updates and promotional images to go on. With no significant releases coming up for Ubisoft this year as they continue to restructure their operations, gamers should look for a formal announcement from Ubisoft soon, as the release dates for Nightfall Protocol and Cold Eye approach.
