New Farming Simulation Game is essentially Stardew Valley set in an animal hotel

When discussing the most influential indie games of all time, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better example than ConcernedApes Stardew Valley. Alongside Undertale, Stardew Valley proved that a solo developer can find the same success as an entire studio if their vision is clear enough. Consistent updates, from new Stardew Valley marriage candidates to additional features and character interactions, has kept the game relevant long after its initial release. With this sustained success, Stardew regularly still finds itself at the top Steam charts — it's only natural that games like Pawsome Resort strive to follow in its footsteps.

However, unlike some Stardew Valley-like game that only offers some of what makes that title great, Pawsome Resort takes almost everything from the ConcernedApe classic. Art style and camera perspective, RPG mechanics and HUD elements, farming and crafting — it's all here, which means that Stardew fans will undoubtedly feel right at home in Pixel Puff's game. And as for how it differs, the answer is simple: a whole bunch of cute and cuddly animals to take care of via the Steam game's titular resort.

Pawsome Resort Being “Stardew With More Animals” is a really apt description

Whether it's cats and dogs, lions and crocodiles, or pandas and flamingos, the resort you take control of will have no shortage of wildlife to interact with. Designing these habitats to create the perfect habitat for the cute, pixelated critters is sure to bring joy to any cozy gamer who picks up this title. Yet, while caring for animals is the defining characteristic of this specific Stardew-which, that's not all you'll be doing when you play this charming indie.

When you think about what does Stardew Valley tick, there are three things that really shine the brightest: NPCs and their associated romance, daily farming, and questing/exploration. And sure enough, every single one of these mechanics is in Pawsome Resort. You'll get to meet and befriend at least eight NPCs, with some as potential romance candidates. Their dialogue will be presented exactly as it is Stardew Valleywith text boxes and a much more detailed portrait model for each character. If the likes of Fiona, Martha, Max and Joel will have something comparable to Stardew Valley's Heart Events is unclear, but the thought of potential romances is certainly intriguing.

As for questing and farming, it certainly looks like those aspects will be very present. Pebble Town, like Pelican Town, has a lot of lore by completing tasks for the residents. And when it comes to farming, you can expect to dig up some turf for your crops and plant your food, cook for your pets, or get materials to sell for profit. In addition, you can customize and furnish not only your home, but your office at the resort, with comfortable places to both work and relax.

Pawsome Resort's early asset plans are exciting

Like other early Steam titles, Pawsome Resort buyers can expect some new content to be added as the game develops. While the early access version will be feature-packed, offering over 25 animal species, a main quest line and side quests, a day-night cycle, and dynamic weather, decoration, farming, and more, the final version will deepen most of the mechanics. More complex stories, additional animals and extra quests are all planned for the full release, with mini-games, new villagers and seasonal events being “discussed”. Despite these planned and potential additions, the price will not increase, so players can get Pawsome Resort right away or wait until it fully launches in a year to join in on the fun.
