Netflix The Sandman is set to wake from his slumber next year when Dream, Death, Destiny and the rest of Endless return, but one star, in particular, has confirmed that his upcoming portrayal of the iconic thunder god Thor will have a short fuse and an ego to match . Billed as one of the greatest comic books of recent times, The Sandman was created from the mind of Neil Gaiman, which ran from 1989 to 1996 and was published by DC Comics. Even if The Sandman was going to be made into a movie in 1991, it went through development hell for years and the adaptation was not to be. Fast forward to 2019, Warner Bros. decided to shift its focus to television instead of the big screen and signed a Netflix deal to produce the series.

Over thirty years after its humble graphic novel beginnings, The Sandman premiered in 2022 and due to its incredible success with DC audiences, the show was subsequently renewed for a second season. The news of the show's second season was well received by its fan base, who were excited to experience more of its supernatural fantasy stories. Although there is no firm release date yet for The Sandman season two, many old and new faces will enter the mysterious world of The Dreaming.

A studio would be perfect for a video game adaptation of The Sandman

When it comes to turning comics into games, a studio comes to mind, and an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman might be the perfect project.

The Sandman season two will see a temperamental Norse god

In an interview with What's On Netflix, the newest member of the cast, Laurence O'Fuarain, opens up about his role as the God of Thunder, Thor, in The Sandman season two and how he will portray a “hot-tempered” and egotistical Nordic legend. O'Fuarain said he was told to play Thor as true to the comics as possible but also to put his own spin on the character. O'Fuarain kept saying that The Sandmans version of God would be loyal, fearless but also temperamental. In the behind-the-scenes teaser for the show, audiences were introduced to a host of new characters, including three Norse gods: Odin (Clive Russell), Loki (Freddie Fox) and Thor (Laurence O'Fuarain). Netflix also revealed that the second season of The Sandman will introduce Game of ThronesJack Gleeson as Puck, “a malevolent hobgoblin who serves as royal jester to King Auberon of Faerie.”

“When I met with the showrunner, (Allan Heinberg), he asked me to stay as true to the comics as I could but definitely put my own spin on Thor. The Thor we see in
The Sandman
is hot-tempered, full of bravado, but loyal to the end. He was really fun to play!”

Previously, fans got to see other new members join The Sandman cast, with Esmé Creed-Miles as Delirium, Adrian Lester as Destiny and Barry Sloane as “The Prodigal”. The Sandman Season two also seems to approach Neil Gaiman's graphic novel series a bit more differently this time around, reworking the story to hone in on Dream's perspective on events more, while allowing the rest of the cast to weave other fantasy stories around him.

Whatever else is in store for season two, fans can only hope that it serves up more of what has been seen in it The Sandman season one's line-up of incredible episodes. The earliest possible release date for season two of The Sandman are now likely to be in the first half of 2025, but of course that all depends on how Netflix decides to release them.
