Magic: The Gathering has collaborated with all kinds of unexpected IPs for some of its latest secret Lair sets, which gives some of its card makeovers inspired by everything from Spongebob Squarepants to Sonic the Hedgehog. Its latest Secret Lair theme may be MTG's most unexpected yet, but since the artwork used for its designs is completely made of play-doh.
Although it may seem like an official collaboration with Play-Doh is a bit from the left field, there is logic to the magician for the coast who choose to turn straight out of their Spider-Man Secret Lair, which is released next week and in a play-doh one, which sinks seven days later. Play-Doh Secret Lair is part of Magic's ongoing work with extra life, and half of all the money made from Play-Doh Superdrop will go to charity.
Some of Magic: The Gathering's iconic creatures have turned into play-doh for a good thing
Extra life is a charity that is engaged in raising money for children's hospitals, and since Play-Doh is the most requested toy of children in these hospitals, it is therefore a play-doh crossover is a lot of meaning. It has also given the artists who created the cards – Ben Millar, Jason Loik and Matthew Cohen – the chance to recreate some of MTG's creatures in a way they have never seen before.
MTGS PLAY-DOH Secret Lair will be a little different from other superdrops as it will contain only four cards. The four cards that have received the play-doh treatment are Polyraptor, Greensleeves Mary-Sorceror, Academy Manufector and Wurmcoil Engine. All the recreated creatures presented in the new artwork have been hand sculptured from Play-Doh in fantastic detail, and right here was where I planned to tell which is my favorite, but I continue to change.
Okay, I've decided, it's Wurmcoil engine. However, hang to the academy manufacturer just look at the little guy.
The non-foil MTG X Play-Doh Secret Lair will cost $ 39.99, while the foil version of the set will be priced at $ 39.99. The set will be Available to buy on MagicSecretlair from 29 September to 9 November and will be printed to meet demand. And again, best of all, half of the money you spend will go straight to extra life. If you participate in MagicCon: Atlanta later this month, you may be among the first to get the cards where Secret Lair will be in limited quantities starting on September 26.
Before the MTG Secret Lair bus comes to Play-Doh, we have Spider-Man to handle. Spidey's Superdrop arrives on September 22, and there is a very real chance that it will end up being one of the most popular MTG Crossovers to date. Perhaps not the most popular, as the final imagination will hit a bit.
