Morrowind's massive Tamriel Rebuilt Mod will finally let you join House Indoril

Tamriel Rebuilt is a massive conversion mod for The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, with the ultimate goal of adding the entire mainland of Morrowind to the game.

The base game of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind takes place on Vvardenfell, the country's inner island. The Tribunal takes the player to Mournhold, but the city is disconnected from its surrounding province. Bloodmoon, meanwhile, takes place on Solstheim, which people may recognize from Skyrim's Dragonborn expansion.

The team behind Tamriel Rebuilt has made great strides since the project began over two decades ago. Over half of Morrowind's mainland has been added, and progress has picked up over the past few years.

The mod's next expansion, Poison Song, will remake many of the mod's older additions and add a new piece of land near the city of Almalexia. However, one of the most exciting aspects of the mod is that, for the first time ever, players will now be able to join House Indoril (nice place, PC Gamer).

Change is the enemy of tradition

Ebonheart Fighter's Guild Tamriel Rebuild Poison Song

For those unaware, base Morrowind lets you join three different houses: Hlaalu, Redoran, and Telvanni. These roughly correspond to thieves, warriors and magicians respectively.

However, you were not allowed to join House Indoril, the ancient, tribunal-aligned house that produced Indoril Nerevar and other famous heroes. Given that your character is the reincarnation of Nerevar, it seems like a natural choice to align with the House of the Hortator.

“Much effort was already put into the mid-2010s to create a unique character for House Indoril, resulting in the wonderful interactions seen in Roa Dyr in the 2019 Aanthirin expansion,” Tamriel Rebuilt's update post states. “A couple of years ago, however, we consolidated and largely turned this characterization into a comprehensive design document, including a plan for a full Indoril questline.”

The rest of the blog post details the various changes coming to Tamriel Rebuilt, including some fascinating anecdotes about the history of the project and how existing work is constantly changing to maintain a consistent visual identity. It's incredibly impressive and a testament to the passion of the team behind the project.

Poison Song is expected to be released in a few months, depending on how fast development goes.
