December is going to be a huge month for Marvel RivalsNetEase Games' upcoming super-powered shooter. In addition to crossovers with games such as Marvel Snap and Fortnite, Marvel RivalsThe introductory season is set to launch on December 6. After two successful closed playtests and a short but exclusive Chinese test in October, the anticipation surrounding the title is almost palpable.
On November 15, NetEase Games offered Marvel Rivals community a preview of the game's post-launch content plans as it prepares for the coming year. This includes, but is not limited to, an overview of the length of the season, the battle pass system, and which heroes will be included at launch. Notably, this includes Moon Knight, who was recently confirmed as Marvel Rivals' latest playable character.

What to expect from the upcoming seasons of Marvel Rivals
Alongside the assurance that the game is receiving various quality of life updates, bug fixes and overhauls, Creative Director, Guangguang confirmed that the game would maintain a 60 server tick speed while operating in several new regions. Players will be able to select their preferred server for lower ping and faster matchmaking. He further stated that Marvel Rivals would feature a starting lineup of 33 heroes and villains.
The game's December release will coincide with a season 0 kick-off, officially called “Doom's Rise.” This season's title is aptly named after the hero shooter's main antagonist, Dr. Doom, who plays a crucial role in the story, especially due to his involvement in the “Time Experiments”. With Marvel Rivals' map-specific stories established that are constantly evolving over time, and potentially expanding on Dr. Doom's theme, Season 0 marks the beginning of the game's promising future.
Season 0, intended as a mini-season, will have a month-long lifespan. This should not only help players get into the game, but also allow the developers to address any major pain points before fully immersing themselves. Regardless, during this period NetEase Games will introduce the following:
- 33 heroes
- 8 maps for Quick Match and Competitive modes
- A conquest map
- A new training series
- An abbreviated combat session
Conquest in Marvel Rivals is a variant of Team Deathmatch. It is currently the only mode that does not follow 6v6.
After that, Season 1, the first full season, will debut in early January. Seasons thereafter will be modeled similarly to this one, lasting roughly three months each and ushering in new heroes, Team-Up abilities, maps, and sometimes fresh game modes. Given that Marvel Comics is home to a large number of locations, future map options for Marvel Rivals seems endless. It has not been confirmed if multiple characters, like those in Season 0, will be released at the same time, or if only one hero will be introduced each season.
Marvel Rivals monetization system and Battle Pass explained
Despite Marvel Rivals Adopting a live service model with a battle pass track, the development team noted that there would be no “pay to win” system. Additionally, due to Season 0 being short, its corresponding battle pass will be sold accordingly, although a price tag was not specified. Reaching different levels will grant skins, avatars, sprays, currency and more.
As the game nears the end of its development cycle, more information will follow Marvel Rivals' after launch, the schedule should be made available. This will likely go into depth about features including but not limited to new heroes, competitive play, whether cross-progression will be optimized for Marvel Rivalsand the in-game store. Hopefully, NetEase Games will continue their effective communication in the days leading up to the game's launch.
