Marvel Rivals' the competitive mode adds an interesting twist to the ranking system with the introduction of the Chrono Shield, and it can be quite tricky to figure out what its purpose is at first. For players who want to know more about it, here's what they need to know.
Marvel Rivals has a competitive as well as a quick play mode. Initially, players must reach level 10 before they can unlock competitive mode, but once they pass that hurdle, they will be able to climb up in Marvel Rivals.

What is Chrono Shield?
Usually, in competitive games, when players lose a few matches in a row, they will be demoted to a lower rank. This is how competitive mode works Marvel Rivals too, although there is a bit more attenuation for players. With the ever-changing meta of Marvel Rivalsit's pretty easy to get into a losing streak. However, instead of players being demoted after a loss, the Chrono Shield will prevent them from losing their current rank. However, it will only work once, and after that, if players keep losing, they will lose their rank and Chrono Shield will go on a cooldown. So basically all it does is give players another chance to snap out of their losing streak, beyond which the regular rules kick in.
How to charge Chrono Shield?
Chrono Shield automatically charges based on the number of losses players have. The number of wins has no effect whatsoever on the Chrono Shield. So after a few losses the Chrono Shield will fully recharge and be available for use. So the next time players lose, it will lose all its charge to prevent players from being demoted, if that case occurs. The only catch is that Chrono Shield is more useful for lower ranked players.
This is because the amount of losses required to charge the Chrono Shield increases as players climb the ranks. In short, it is more useful for players who are new to the game and in the starting ranks. Obviously the best way to ensure players have the Chrono Shield to back them up is to make sure they don't lose too many in a row and win a few matches in between, as that would ensure their elo doesn't drop too low to reach the demotion, while the Chrono Shield continues to build up charge. Overall, Chrono Shield is a great feature to have Marvel Rivals competitive modes for players who are very particular about their ranks.
