Leaked PS5 icons may hint at new features

A new leak claims that unused PS5 store icons could indicate that features like cross-buying and an “eco mode” are potentially in development for Sony's console. Additionally, the leaked PS5 store icons included some that could indicate which games are available on both PS5 and PC, although the alleged icons were notably missing from the PS4's database.

Since its shaky launch in 2020, the PS5 has gradually grown its user base thanks to exclusive titles and support for popular third-party games. As support for the PS4 has ended, more users have jumped to the PS5 to continue playing their favorite titles via backwards compatibility, along with exclusive games. Although some of the PS5's top titles, such as God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthwhich eventually made its way to PC showcases, the PS5 family remains an affordable option when compared to a mid-range gaming PC.

Leaked PS5 icons and symbols could indicate new features in the works

While any rumors about potential PS5 features need to be taken with a grain of salt, a new leak may shed some light on some of Sony's plans. According to Twitter user Amethxst, new icons and symbols may be added to the PS5 console and various PSN websites. These include a “PS5/PC” icon which can be used to indicate which Sony supported games are available on both platforms, such as Lost Soul Aside. Additionally, a Cross-Buy icon was revealed, although its purpose is unclear at the time of writing. Game Rant confirmed Amethxst's claims with a screenshot taken on a PS5 at 8:30 PM Eastern on November 4th.

Given that Sony's competitor, Microsoft, offers a cross-buy option for PC and console games through the Xbox Play Anywhere program, the leaked “Cross-Buy” icon could indicate that Sony may be considering a similar offer. Other icons from the leak include green and gray icons with a charging indicator in the middle, along with some unused icons for games that support cloud backup and the DualSense touchpad. The leaked icons are notably missing on PS4, but are available to view on PS5.

In response to questions from other users about the legitimacy of the leaked icons, Amethxst shared a video as proof that the icons exist. Amethxst's PSN profile info box showed each of the leaked PS5 icons, along with brief descriptions. Amethxst stated that the icons were added between March and November 2025, implying that they were recent additions.
