July 21 is suddenly a super busy day for Grand Theft Auto

The future of Grand Theft Auto is fast approaching, and fans should still make sure to mark July 21st on their calendars. With GTA 6 on the horizon, Rockstar Games' next open-world crime game continues to dominate conversations, while GTA onlineThe Kortz Center Heist update has proven that its online mode has done anything but become stale. And the same can be said about the perpetually engaged Grand Theft Auto community.

While Rockstar itself remains focused on beating GTA 6s release date, the wider GTA community prepares for the next era of online. One of the biggest parts of that future is FiveM, the popular multiplayer modding platform that has changed GTA 5 in everything from RPG servers to massive custom experiences. Now FiveM is getting a major upgrade designed to improve performance, increase player count and lay the groundwork for what's next.

GTA 5 Enhanced gets FiveM on July 21st

As announced by the FiveM team, FiveM for GTA 5 improved will launch into Early Access on July 21, with a collection of improvements focused on networking, server performance, scripting, and developer tools. One of the biggest upgrades comes through improved networking technology. FiveM for GTA 5 improved increases the possible synchronization speed from the previous 30 updates per second to up to 120 updates per second, reducing the delay between players' actions and what others see in the game. The team has also improved entity culling, which allows heavily populated servers to handle players and objects more efficiently while reducing visual lag.

The update also brings major improvements for GTA online RP server owners and creators (or really anyone with a server). FiveM for GTA 5 improved introduces the new Cfx Server system, which reduces memory usage by up to 50% in some scenarios, along with improved scripting support, expanded performance tracking, and upgraded developer tools. The platform is also working to support servers beyond the current limit of 2,048 players, with future public tests planned for larger players.

For gamers, some of the biggest quality-of-life changes include improved installation options, better cache management, and more reliable performance. FiveM will also now automatically remove obsolete server files that could previously build up and consume storage space over time. Developers will also have access to improved monitoring tools, including expanded metrics and new performance profiling capabilities to better maintain large-scale servers. Of course, it will be interesting to see what the PC version of GTA 6 looks like and what the next era of Online supports, but Rockstar only focuses on GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S right now.

Find the odd one before the timer reaches zero.

GTA 6 online and a PC version is likely in the plans, but they're not the focus right now, meaning FiveM and GTA 5 improved still has quite a long shelf life ahead of it before players migrate to the supposed new version. Whether FiveM eventually plays a role in the future of GTA 6 remains to be seen, but the continued investment shows that the demand for custom GTA experiences aren't slowing down anytime soon.
