The Borderlands series is known for two things: tons of guns and terrible humor. While we all love the guns, the series' humor started to wear off after Borderlands 2. Thankfully, story director Sam Winkler has revealed that the team will be toning down the toilet humor in Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4 can't just be more borderlands
After a disastrous movie adaptation and three very similar mainline games, 4 is an opportunity for Borderlands to evolve.
However, it seems Gearbox overall has no intention of losing its goofy sense of humor. As a Christmas gift to the team, management handed out custom cast iron pans with the Gearbox logo on them. Not only is this a great gift, but it was also a way to tell the team they were “cooking”.
Borderlands 4 developers get panned
As shared by Senior Writer, Jordan Mychal Lemos on Twitter, Gearbox gave its developers a cast iron pan with a Gearbox logo on it. While it may seem like a silly joke of a gift, a cast iron skillet actually makes an excellent gift. They are actually quite expensive and make cooking very easy, even for kitchen snobs like me.
You see, due to its cast iron nature, the skillet gets very hot and is perfect for… relax, I won't bore you with the details. Just know that this, along with some slate coasters, makes a great and actually useful gift. Sure, a gift card would have been a little more useful, but Gearbox has always done things a little differently!
Regarding toning down the slapstick humor in Borderlands 4, Sam Winkler revealed that he “wasn't at liberty to talk much about the content of BL4, but I remain steadfast in my criticism of BL3's abundance of toilet humor.” This hopefully means that the level of writing in the upcoming installment will be much better than what we have seen before.
We got our first full look at the Borderlands 4 trailer at The Game Awards, and while there was a lot to take in, fans were seemingly unimpressed by the vanilla Vault Hunters. Of course, this was based on just a few seconds of footage.
