Hunter x Hunter Chapter 405: Two Hisokas

Hunter x Hunter 405 impresses, as do the previous chapters before it. IN HxH 405, the story switches from the Kakin Princes and Kurapika storylines, and instead zooms back into the mafia war and the Phantom Troupe storyline.

This chapter sees the return of a fan-favorite character, Hisoka, as his involvement in this arc only grows. The setup for what is to come is huge.

The Real Hisoka returns

The Hisoka seen earlier was Bonolenov

Hunter x Hunter 405 opens with a game of poker and reveals the return of a long-awaited character, Hisoka. Formerly in HxHfans had seen what they thought was Hisoka, found by members of Xi-Yu Zakuro and Lynch. But that Hisoka was a hoax, meaning this is the first time Hisoka has been seen in a very long time.

This chapter shows Hisoka's thoughts. It is revealed that Hisoka had not been interested in fighting the Chimera Ants, despite their insane power. He was also not interested in Halkenburg's ability, as he learned that it is a group ability and not something he could fight 1v1. Hisoka also revealed that he has no interest in fighting groups or non-humans, no matter how powerful they are. Hisoka wants to be able to ravage his enemy one-on-one.

I'm normal. Group play or animal crack does nothing for me. All I want is to ravage a partner one-on-one. — Hisoka

Soon after that, fans got to see another Hisoka after the first Hisoka. This is actually not the real Hisoka, but Bonolenov, an underrated member of the Spiders disguised as him with his Nen ability, Metamorphose, per Chrollo's order. Metamorphosis works by allowing Bonolenov to transform into someone he has spoken to, and he can maintain this form for as long as he has spent face-to-face with that person. Bonolenov also believes that he can change in a shorter time for people shorter than him.

Chrollo has given Bonolenov this risky mission to give the mafia families the impression of having maintained balance on the Black Whale. If the mob family thinks they have Hisoka under surveillance, they won't have a problem with the Phantom Squad roaming around. This was seen in previous chapters when a Xi-Yu took in the fake Hisoka. But something didn't go according to plan, when Lynch, a woman who has a Nen ability that forces whoever she hits and asks a question to answer truthfully, asked Bonolenov if he was Hisoka, to which he replied no. This led to Bonolenov killing her, because she knew too much. He kept Zakuro alive though, because he needed him.

Currently, Bonolenov has changed his disguise from Hisoka to what looks like an owl, one of the shadow creatures seen in the Yorknew arc back then.

Chrollo's Hunt For a Powerful Nen Ability

This Nen ability will kill Hisoka for good

In Hunter x Hunter 405, Bonolenov appeared concerned about Chrollo's mental state after the deaths of Shalnark and Kortopi. Chrollo had asked him to transform into Hisoka, and if he found Hisoka, to transform into someone else, and most importantly, not to fight him. Bonolenov was more than willing not to fight Hisoka, as he would be greatly disadvantaged anyway.

However, Bonolenov reveals that Chrollo didn't bring any of this up during the meeting, as he likely wants to handle Hisoka all by himself. Bonolenov would prefer that Nobunaga and his group deal with Hisoka due to Chrollo's condition.

It's revealed that Chrollo is actually after something on this Black Whale that will give him the power to kill Hisoka for good. That treasure in question definitely refers to a Nen ability that he wants to steal with Skill Hunter. However, what that ability is is unknown, but it's not impossible that Togashi has already demonstrated it in some way. It's possible that whatever ability Chrollo is seeking will be the end of him once he uses it on Hisoka. This could mark the end of the Phantom Troupe soon.

This chapter also shows Chrollo walking alone. On the news, a message was broadcast about the 10th anniversary of what was described as the brutal murder of someone known as Mr. Lisnorth. This man masqueraded as the president of an organization that helped underprivileged children; but what he really did is much darker. He was one of the men involved in the brutal killing of Sarsa, a little girl from Meteor City whose death caused the creation of the Phantom Squad.

This man was definitely killed by the spiders in revenge 10 years ago. Chrollo is simply thinking how sheepish people are to believe that this man was a good person and everything the media says about him.

The Phantom Squad and Heil-Ly

• The Heil-Ly members are only getting stronger

IN HxH 404, the last panel showed Nobunaga with his group, which includes Feitan and Phinks. They had stopped their plan to go straight to the Heil-Ly hideout and instead wanted to go and ask some questions of the other mafia families. IN HxH 405, fans see them doing just that. Nobunaga meets Keni Wang and Tajao, the underboss and vice boss of the Cha-R family. Nobunaga asks with them about the leader of Heil-Ly and how they function as a group. Heil-Ly was recently taken over by a new leader, Morena, after the previous one died. Wang admits that they don't know Morena enough to know about her true intentions with everything that's going on because Heil-Ly, unlike the other 2 mafia families, kills a lot of innocent civilians.

Nobunaga and his group realize that Heil-Ly wants to destroy everything, which includes everyone on this ship and basically Kakin himself. They also conclude that they gain more power by killing people.

As the chapter ends, Tajao leads Nobunaga's group to a previously sealed door – one that they said would let them use when they really work together. This door is a passage between the different levels of the Black Whale.

Hunter X Hunter Chapter 405 also shows Morena again, along with the rest of Heil-Ly. As it stands, many of the members have risen drastically, with the highest right now being Dogman, at 62. It's been revealed that he can smell a person's Nen type, skill, and even identify them entirely depending on how close they are is at a distance from him. Morena wants them to kidnap someone and force them to work with them, but this person is currently unknown. It seems they are not a Nen user, so it is unknown what she would want with them.
