How was Koichi avoided by everyone around him?

In the new My hero Academy spin-off series, VigilantThe protagonist, Koichi, seems to be quite alone despite his positive and helpful personality. At the beginning of the show he remains isolated and alone in a small apartment out of reach for most. However, we do not immediately have an explanation of how this man with a hero's heart ended up in this situation.

How did this prospective Vigilante hero so isolated and alone, socially deterred by other people while they only came out as well-meaning and positive? In section 5 of Anime, we get a deeper insight into how previous events have been going on Koichi's character and led him to this point in his life.

A misunderstanding set him for isolation

At the beginning of My hero Academy Vigilant Section 5, we are shown a flashback to when Koichi was definitely more socially outgoing than he is now. Koichi is seen hanging with a group of students of their age as “the new guy” after a bar in the evening. Koichi, seemingly much more sober than the group, suggests that they come to his place since it is nearby.

The group initially responds positively to Koichi's proposal, interested in the idea to see where he stops. But the atmosphere will soon change when they reach Koichi's apartment, which is on top of a scary, seemingly abandoned building. The scary outside of the building seems to quickly sober them, but Koichi fails to recognize their obvious discomfort.

“It's okay, no need to be shy. I have lots of snacks with your name on them, and tea that is too die for!” -Koichi Haimawari draws a college girl into the darkness at the entrance of the building.

Koichi's words really do not help when the rescue group takes them too literally, with one of the college girls who screams for help when the scene turns to the next day. News about the event is spreading quickly around Campus, with Koichi now discouraged as the “scary beginner.”

“Hello. It's him. The new crawl of a beginner, Haimawari. I hear he tried to force a girl into an abandoned building. Would not take no for an answer.” -A college student who gossip when Koichi goes through campus.

After carrying the whispers and accusing staring, Koichi retires to his apartment, regrets his failed college debut and expects himself to have at least a place to live. Although he thinks it is spacious, this only depresses him further because it makes it feel still alone.

This open statement for Koichi's loneliness seguer to a theme for My hero Academy Section, where we see Koichi tell a story about another unfortunate event that led to him missing to take a hero degree. He had stopped to save someone who almost drowned in a river on a rainy day, causing him to give up trying to get to the test on time. He tells this story to Pop Step, but is surprised that she is so angry with the story when he tells it.

“It's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You were so busy pretending to be one, you gave up your best chance to live your dream and become a real hero!” -Pop Step Chastising Koichi after hearing his story.

However, unlike before meeting the Vigilants, both Koichi's previous wishes will now be realized. We see that he is happy to have both Pop Step and Knuckleduster present in his apartment when he could not get people to come up to it before. He also works as a Vigilante hero thanks to their help, something he could not fully realize before. Although Koichi had been discouraged by misunderstanding and unfortunate circumstances, his heroic spirit never woke up. This eventually helped him to find his way back to the hero's path and inspired those like Pop Step and Knuck Leaders in different ways.
