Windrose don't believe in short commutes. One minute you're learning the basics on a starter beach, and the next you're staring out at a map full of islands that all feel a little too far away. Sailing everywhere has its charm at first, but it doesn't take long before you start to wonder if there's a faster way to get around without spending half the play session on open water.
Good news: there is, but it's not something the game gives you right away. You have to explore and unlock some things before the sea starts to feel a lot smaller. Here's how fast travel works in Windrose and how to set it up yourself.
Windrose is currently in early access, so the information in this guide may change over time.
How to unlock and use Fast Travel
Fast travel becomes available during the early main quest “How My Beach Adventure Began” after you learn how to molten copper ingot. At this point, you'll unlock the Fast Travel Bell, which is the item used to build the system.
You can get one Fast travel Bell either off find one or craft it. One of the earliest ways is through a Smuggler's Cache near your starting beach. It is hidden underground behind debris, and once you have cleared it and defeat the enemy withinyou can open a chest that contains a Bell and unlocks the recipe. You can also find Clocks in chests around shipwrecks as you explore.
If you do that instead, you need 10 copper ingots and 3 ropes, made on a workbench with copper ore (found in caves) and plant fiber.
The watch is not used on its own. It is placed to a Fast Travel Pointlike you build through the construction menu (by pressing 'B'). Every fast travel point costs 20 Wood and a fast travel watchand it must be located near water, such as a shoreline or dock area.
To use fast travel, you need at at least two Fast Travel Points in different locations. Once you have them, you can travel between them freely.
If you're on your ship, you can also open the map and instantly travel to any unlocked point, as long as you're not in combat or being chased.
