All ways to remove a curse from a companion
What's more exciting than seeing a bright red treasure chest, opening it, and getting a brand new piece of equipment far more powerful than what you have equipped. It's a great feeling, especially when you see the absurd bonuses on the weapon. Equip it and show off how strong it can be.

Dragon Quest 3 Remaster Preview: Prepare to be insulted
Wonder how being a raging narcissist will help me in my quest…
Ah, but it just happens to be cursed. Dragon Quest 3 Remake has tons of such gear, from weapons to accessories, that have a risk-reward factor involved. Sometimes it's worth the risk, while other times the trade-off may be more than you bargained for. So how do you actually manage a cure?
What are curses?
Curses are, simply put, negative effects inherent in a tool. These curses can be found on every piece of equipment you equip. Weapons, armor, accessories, you name it. If you can use it, it can be cursed.
A lot of the early game gear is friendly enough tell when a weapon is cursedalthough this is not true for all weapons. If a weapon ever seems too good to be true, it probably is. An item called “Sword of Ruin” is a weapon you should know is cursed even if it doesn't say so.
Okay, just take it off if it's not good. Well, that's where you're in luck. Cursed equipment becomes quite fond of its user, to stick with them no matter what. There are a few ways to remove these cursed items, although they aren't easy or cheap, so think carefully about each item you equip.
Curses can be anything from something as simple as damage yourself when you hit an enemyto put you in a state of permanent confusion. There's no real way to know what a curse does until you see it for yourself. Trial by fire.
Can you remove curses from equipment?
If only it were that simple, but unfortunately it isn't. If a piece of equipment comes with a curse, it is permanent. While you can remove the curse from the character, you cannot remove the curse from the item. If you want the extra power it gives you, you'll have to put up with an inconvenient curse.
If you are not sure if a piece of equipment is cursed, a salesperson can tell you in short order. Simply show them any gear and they'll tell you if it's cursed, as well as its sell value, rarity, and if it's gender-locked.
Your salesperson has this as an inherent ability, rather than one they learn by leveling up.
All ways to remove a curse from a companion
Thankfully, curses aren't permanent, although they're something you'll want to avoid in the early game unless you're rolling in gold. There are only two ways to remove a cursewhich removes the item in question from the cursed character and returns it to the item bag instead.
The first is to go to any church or priest that offers church services, and choose Benediction. This will, one at a time, remove cursed equipment from your characters. There is also quite a high cost to use the services of the goddess, potentially cost upwards of 1,000 gold to remove it. The church sure makes a mint of curses, eh.
The other, and preferred, way is to use the Sheen spell. It really is that simple. However, this spell is not unlocked until a bit along with either the Mage or Sage Job, around level 30. It also takes about 20 MP to use. Thankfully, sleeping at an inn to refill your MP is much cheaper than Benediction.
So if you want to try your hand at cursed gear, make sure to have a magic user handy with the Sheen enchantmentunless you plan to donate all your savings to the church.
