To read alien symbols, you need to know how to learn the Axum language. You can do that by going through the area, which starts with knowing how to make the feedback resonator Subnautica 2then clear the Alien Ruins Angel Comb. Afterwards, get the Axum Vision customization and visit the Rosetta Stone.

Axum Vision Adaptation 4-4 in Subnautica 2

To translate the Axum language into Subnautica 2you must first:

After receiving the Axum Vision Adaptation Subnautica 2you will start seeing yellow marks all over the Alien Ruins biome. But when you hover over it, it might say Translation failed in red. This is because you have not yet learned the foreign language Subnautica 2.

Return to the Alien Ruins and walk another 235m 195 degrees direction, i.e. between south and southwest. You should see a narrow, tall building filled with green glowing symbols.

Once nearby, you should see a square with an octagon on it. Equip the scanner and hover over it to prompt it to scan the Rosetta Stone.

After scanning the Rosetta Stone, you can move the pillar around to see some alien writing over it. The markings mention that the Rosetta Stone acts as our own Rosetta Stone, helping to decipher an unknown language.

The writings also give more context to the lore, where it is said that the beings who live (or lived) on this planet asked the humans, whom they call Architects, for help.

Once you understand the Axum language, you can now proceed with the main quest. The next task is to enter the observatory. But before you can do that, you first need to fix the alien power generator. You can do so by visiting the giant structure above the Alien Ruins Angel Comb in Subnautica 2then into the two alien structures attached to the cliff side.

You may need to fix the alternator as well, so get some Subnautica 2 materials like Troilite ready, because you will need it.
