How to get rough emeralds

While in previous updates players had to explore the Desert Caves to obtain the Rough Emerald, Emeralds now reside exclusively in the Lost Isles. Emeralds can be found on Floating Islands and can also be located in the Lost Isle Grottos.

Neither location requires players to raise their heat resistance to enter, making them a good place to go for early game gems. However, these locations can have players encountering either a Golem or a Brute, so players should still be careful when exploring either.

When exploring either location, players should keep an eye out for green emerald nodes, which are quite common in both areas. To get the Rough Emerald, players simply need harvest Emerald nodes with a pick of rare rarity or higher. Mining these nodes will yield lots of Rough Emeralds, ready for players to take back to their village to convert into Cut Emeralds.

How to cut emeralds

Once players have obtained the Rough Emeralds, they can do so convert them to Cut Emeralds via Gem Cutter. With a Gem Cutter built, players can simply interact with it and select the Cut Emerald recipe through its interface. A rough emerald is needed to craft a cut emerald, making it relatively easy for players to gauge how much they need to harvest to fulfill a certain recipe.

What are Cut Emeralds used for?

Cut Emeralds is a crafting recipe primarily used at craft epic rarity weapons via the Crafting Bench. If players apply Cut Emeralds to the blade/head/stock of their desired weapon or tool via the Crafting Bench, they can pack an epic rarity version of that particular weapon. Cut Emeralds are too used for Gem Shields and Gem Flint-Knock/Musketseach of which are also epic rarity weapons and tools.

In terms of utility, Cut Emeralds are a great way for players looking to get their hands on upgraded gear. Tools made with Cut Emeralds have the same durability as those made with Cut Ruby, but boasts better knockback at the cost of less speed. However, Amber weapons rank higher in terms of durability alone.
