How to upgrade to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered on PS5 and PC

Those who own the original game on PlayStation 4 can upgrade to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for just $10, as can some PC gamers.

Horizon's human enemies explained

Most of the Horizons marketing focuses on spectacular and intense battle scenarios with Horizons iconic, gigantic, animal-like machines, instead of fights between emaciated people. However, a large part of Horizons game is centered around fighting rogue factions of post-apocalyptic tribes in the United States. IN Zero dawnhuman antagonists are represented by Shadow Carja and the Eclipse Cultists, who seek to destroy Carja and resurrect ancient war machines. Although these goals are manipulated by the villain AI HADES, who is truly trying to wipe out all life on Earth.

IN Horizon Forbidden Westsome Eclipse remnants can be encountered, but they are primarily replaced by Regalla's Tenakth Rebels and the alien Far Zenith as human antagonists. While neither faction revives old war machines i Forbidden Westthey make up for it with increased armor, new technology, and greater combat prowess compared to the Eclipse. Several rebels can be found donning thick armor and energy shields that require powerful attacks to take down. Other Rebels can be found on sidelined Bristlebacks, Clawstriders and Tremortusks. Meanwhile, the Far Zenith are equipped with near-impenetrable shields, shrapnel-firing Specter Gauntlets, and the ability to fly.

The flaws of Horizon's human antagonists

Compared to the loud and engaging machines, many Horizon fans have found the human enemies to lack challenge. In both Zero dawn and Forbidden Wests early game, human enemies can be small obstacles to overcome, with the best option being to take them down often through stealth takedowns or quick melee combat. However, as players increasingly acquire very rare or legendary weapons, human enemies become little more than easy fodder, as they can be quickly taken down with quick headshots from a bow or blown up with slings and other weapons. While Far Zenith offered more of a challenge than other human opponents, Far Zenith acted more like boss battles that were few and far between.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Human Influence on Horizon 3

With many new players potentially diving into Horizon series for the first time with the upcoming release of both Horizon Zero Dawn remastered and LEGO Horizon Adventuresthis new influx of players may see some of the series' quirks with fresh eyes, especially when it comes to its human combat scenarios. Players can praise the battles Zero dawns various animalistic machines, but feels the sore spots in its human antagonists over the simplicity of their encounters. Zero dawns machines and engaging story may entice new players to try the rest of the games in the series, but its human enemies may not be an appealing factor for playing the other games.

After Horizon Zero Dawn remasteredGuerrilla Games should aim to significantly improve human combat encounters too Horizon 3. Improvements made in Forbidden West were good steps in the right direction, but more could be done to make struggling humans truly engaging. Fighting people can be made similar to the elderly Assassin's Creed games where they block most attacks and must be disarmed by precise moves before they can take damage. Guerrilla can also allow Aloy to use more melee weapons, such as the Oseram Hammer or Tenakth Sword, to take down enemies that are only susceptible to specialized weapons.
