God of War Laufey's Boss Fights seriously have endless potential, but it's not the new ones that are the most exciting

God of War Laufey has been one of the biggest announcements of the year so far, and the 20 minutes Santa Monica Studio revealed at the Sony State of Play showcase has raised a lot of big questions. This time, God of War Laufey will follow Faye right after her death as she ventures into a strange new world called Everywhen. The Everywhen is a massive afterlife for gods and other powerful beings, and it's already confirmed to introduce some exciting new pantheons.

The new one God of War Laufey deities so far confirmed are Sekhmet and Begtse. Sekhmet is an Egyptian goddess of war, plague and chaos, while Begtse is a Mongol god of war. These characters tease that there will likely be more gods from these two pantheons introduced throughout the story, but that's not the most exciting thing about God of War Laufey. New mythologies are great, but the chance to see gods from the past God of war games can turn out to be just as cool.

God of War Laufey, explained who Faye is

God of War Laufey, Explained: Who is Faye?

God of War Laufey will follow Kratos' second wife, Faye, and her journey in Everywhen. Here's what you need to know about her character.

God of War Laufey has plenty of room to bring together both new and old gods

Sekhmet and Begtse are downright terrifying when they first appear in God of War Laufey feature films. Begtse's massive size and raw power and Sekhmet's cool calm demeanor are fascinating contrasts, and it will be incredibly exciting to see if any other creatures from the Egyptian and Mongol pantheons appear.

But there is also a huge graveyard of gods that Kratos has created for God of War Laufey to dig up and put back in the spotlight. When watching God of wars Norse saga, there are already a few characters who could make a surprise second appearance in Faye's story. Baldur, Magni, and Modi all met their targets at the hands of Kratos in the first Nordic chapter. It would only make sense for Faye to run into them at some point during the match.

That is also the question God of War Laufeys timeline to consider. It is clear that the game starts at the same time as God of war (2018) does, but Santa Monica Studio has yet to reveal whether the game's story will span both the first chapter and Ragnarök. Time can work completely differently in Everywhen, and that would allow the game's story to run parallel to both God of war and Ragnarök. If so, Heimdall, Thor and Odin can easily be thrown into the mix.

Faye vs. Thor part 2

The Norse saga has mentioned Faye's fight against Thor, and it would be pretty cool to actually experience it firsthand. Faye used the Leviathan ax to give Thor one of the hardest battles of his life. She may not have the ax this time around, but the mystical sword she wields in the feature film has the potential to be just as powerful or even stronger. There have even been leaks and theories suggesting that the sword is Merlin or Excalibur. Throwing Arthurian legends into the mix would be a wild twist, but it would also be a great way to potentially make Faye even stronger than she was in her previous life.

Everywhen could be the key to bringing back the Greek Pantheon

Bring back God of wars Greek pantheon in God of War Laufey feels inevitable, but there's really no way to know for sure right now. Kratos has a lot of blood on his hands when it comes to the Greek gods. His guilt for causing such destruction on his homeworld has been one of his hallmarks throughout the Norse saga, and it would be really compelling to see the pantheon through Faye's eyes this time around.

Although she has never met these gods, she has a unique personal connection to them. Faye is responsible for helping Kratos deal with his anger and guilt, and putting her in a situation where she has to face the very gods her husband killed when he was a completely different person would be fascinating to watch unfold. Santa Monica Studios' State of Play reveal confirmed many of those God of War Laufey leaks that had been circulating the internet before, but some have yet to be proven right or wrong. One of the leaks claims that Mesoamerican gods are supposed to play a role. If this is true and God of War Laufey has Mongolian, Egyptian, and Mesoamerican gods, then it would be surprising and a little disappointing to leave out the Greek pantheon.

God of War Laufey can be really particular about which gods it includes

There are still more questions than answers when it comes to this new one God of war game, but one thing that was clarified is that Begtse and Sekhmet are gods of war. It is very possible that the game title “God of War” could be used to refer to all the Gods of War instead of just Kratos. This would help Santa Monica Studio narrow down which gods to give the spotlight to; there are so many ancient pantheons out there, and it would quickly become overwhelming trying to pick and choose which gods to add to the story. Because of this, it would make sense to only feature one war god specifically from each pantheon.

God of War Laufey doesn't have an official release date yet, but leaks have claimed 2027. However, all leaks should be taken with a grain of salt.

When it comes to the Greek pantheon, this would leave Ares as the god most likely to be a part of God of War Laufey acting of characters. Even if it's not every god that Kratos has killed, Ares would make a great boss fight. Ares was the one who tricked Kratos into killing his first wife and daughter. He's the god who kick-started Kratos' journey, and seeing Faye take down whoever was responsible for sending her husband down such a dark path would be a great ending. Right now it's just speculation. It may be a while before Santa Monica Studio reveals more, but there will hopefully be another teaser during this year's Game Awards.
