God Of War Laufey Star 'Unbothered' By Sexist Online Backlash

When we first saw the announcement of God of War Laufey, there was a pretty noticeable mix of reactions online. You had people understandably excited about a new God of War game, those baffled by the existence of a massive green cube of jelly voiced by Jack Quaid, and you had the not-so-understandable reactions of regular people who get upset when a woman is in a video game.

Tons of sexist and misogynistic comments appeared online, as well as deeply strange AI-generated videos of protagonist Faye doing dishes or laundry. There aren't many good times to be on social media, but the aftermath of God of War Laufey's announcement certainly wasn't one of the best.

Deborah Anne Woll is not bothered by God Of War Laufey Haters

With much of the attention on Faye, and therefore actress Deborah Anne Woll, there was the potential for her to be a bit affected by the visceral reactions online, as has happened in the past with other actors in female leads. Thankfully, Woll has taken the backlash in stride, explaining to a fan at Florida Supercon (thanks GamesRadar) that she's been “completely unfazed” by them.

“I mean, really, I thought I'd be a lot more affected by it,” Woll tells TikTok user Quinnphobic. “One, I'm not on social media, so that helps. And two, I don't know, I feel completely unbothered because I just know it's amazing. Like, it's okay if it's not your cup of tea, but in no universe is that bad.”

You can't argue that not being on social media definitely helps in avoiding most of the nonsense, although I'm sure it managed to seep in one way or another. Thankfully, Woll doesn't seem to notice, leaving anyone who has decided not to try what will most likely be another excellent game from Santa Monica to ingest their own misogyny.
