Square Enix Final Fantasy universe is awash with spin-offs, with many of them receiving the re-release or remake treatment in recent years. In particular, the one that has undoubtedly been at the center is the remake of the classic Final Fantasy 7. Many of the pieces of this expanded lore have been re-released at some level, but one: Before Crisis Final Fantasy 7a mobile game that never reached audiences outside of Japan.
Launched in 2004, it offered players a new perspective on the world Final Fantasy 7focusing on the mysterious organization known as the Turks. Despite being the first mobile exclusive Final Fantasy game developed by Square Enix, it never made its way to Western audiences due to technical limitations at the time. Now with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth done and Crisis core enjoying a remaster, it's time to give Before the crisis a second chance, preferably before the long-awaited one Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3.
Crisis Core's Final Fantasy 7 Reunion's success proves the demand for more
Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 received a successful remaster before the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthproving that fans have an appetite for prequel content. Focus on Zack Fair and his role within Final Fantasy 7 universe was initially a hit, selling over two million copies. Zack also became one of the most popular Final Fantasy sign.
Before the crisis would fit perfectly into this model. With the expanded knowledge of FF7 Remakethe story has become more than just a prequel – and given how the Turks' stories have already developed, it's safe to assume we'll learn more about them in the final part of the trilogy.
An HD 2D remaster of Before Crisis Final Fantasy 7 Is an ideal way forward
One of the biggest questions surrounding a potential revival of Before the crisis is how it could be reintroduced to modern platforms. A free-to-play mobile format might seem logical given the original platform, but a better solution would be an HD-2D remaster, similar to Octopath Traveler.
The HD-2D format is already popular among fans of Final Fantasy and other RPG franchises. It preserves the essence of 2D pixel art while incorporating high definition effects that make the experience feel fresh. The style of the original game is a real-time action style with 2D graphics as the player moves in a side-scrolling manner. Keeping the pixelated style of the characters, but sharpening and even updating the backgrounds in line with Final Fantasy 7 Remake the trilogy would be a great way to keep the nostalgic feel of the game while bringing it up to modern standards.
Western fans finally deserve to play before Crisis
For many fans, the most frustrating part of the Before the crisis was its only release in Japan. While Western audiences eagerly awaited a localization that never came, the game remained one of the few parts of Final Fantasy 7 Collection which never left Japan. Given how interconnected Final Fantasy 7 Remake universe has become, it seems only fair that Western fans get to experience Before the crisis before Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 arrives.
The timing couldn't be more perfect. Before the crisis provides insight into the relationships between Shinra, the Turks, and AVALANCHE. The role of the Turks expands in the latter part of the story, and would serve as a means of heightening the emotional impact of important events such as those at the Temple of the Ancients.
A pre-crisis revival would complete the lineup
Re-release Before the crisis would finally do Final Fantasy 7 Compilation available in its entirety to a global audience. With Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core Reunion already remastered and available, Before the crisis is the missing piece of the puzzle that fans deserve earlier Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3.
